Eclipse is a development platform. For the most part its used as an IDE but it's really much more than that. http://www.eclipse.org/

Apache Ant is a cross platform build tool primarily for Java - it's like make on steroids. http://ant.apache.org/

Junit is a unit testing framework for Java. http://www.junit.org/index.htm

In case you hadn't figured it out, I'm a software developer and work primarily in Java.

Firefox (or an alternative browser)
Outlook Express (or an alternative email client)
BitTorrent (or an alternative bit torrent client)
iTunes (or an alternative music management program)
Microsoft Office

(I left off AVG and Spybot S&D although life would probably be pretty crappy without those.)

Used to? So you don't anymore?

At the last place I worked, we used Novell. It was really a mess. Groupwise used to give me so many headaches....

My current job is all M$, Active Directory, and Outlook, and it's so much easier....
