I had a Pong-type machine, but it must've been a knockoff since I don't see it on this site. I'd be willing to bet that my parents still have it packed up in their garage somewhere since they have never, ever thrown anything away.

Mine was kind of similar to this in function, but the appearance isn't quite the same. It had two or three different games, all of which were essentially Pong, and three or four different game speeds, of which the fastest was nearly impossible to play.

Did anyone ever play Warlords on the Atari 2600? It was one of very few 4-player games for the system. We had some epic battles with this game.

Intellevision was an improvement graphcs-wise over 2600, but the controls were torture. Colecovision was probably the best pre-NES system. Coleco's Donkey Kong was tops.

Ridiculously wrong. The disc was awesome, and still better in my opinion than joysticks. Clearly this is true as modern consoles basically use a disc control. The problem was the additional button layout, but even though they took a toll on your hands, the gameplay advantage of having more than one big red button meant the games were on average far superior to Atari titles.

1) I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. I should have stated that while I value your opinion, it is severly flawed and obviously the product of a confused and simplistic mind. BTW, what does rediculous mean?
2) The basic premise of the disc, a flat pressure based motion control with more than 4 cardinal directions is alive and well in nearly all modern game controllers.
3) Gee... do you really think a kid would throw out a 26 year old piece of hardware? Hard to imagine, I mean it's not like it's obsolete or anything.

Your mom is like a 4 player gaming system....shes placed in the living room as four guys eagerly stand around her with their "joysticks" in hand, they "plug" into her box, a euphoria of excitement mixed in with sweaty palms is felt by all, joining in at anytime is encouraged, and throughout the night her box is manhandled by many strangers inserting and pulling out their discs.

Me neither.

In addition to the Coleco tank game, I've owned:

Atari 2600
NES*
Sega Genesis*
Nintendo 64
PS2

I used to play Madden on the N64, but slacked off over time. My kids play the N64 and PS2. I'm pretty much out of the bidness.

Although I will occasionally play the old Atari games online. And I never pass up an opportunity to play a Galaga arcade system when I see it. For some reason I'm addicted to that game.

I can see that. I was a HUGE fan of 6 and 7, but 8 and 9 weren't all that great. I liked X and X-2 just fine, though. Anxious to play XII. Of course, it just came out, so I'll probably wait a year or so. :D

I never had a "home" unit but i owned about $200,000 worth of arcade style video games beginning in 1981. I was the mean old bastard who came around and collected all those quarters. About 1.5 million over an 8 year period. I got half of the money and the location got the other half. Those suckers weighed about twice what a refrigerator does as they were built of plywood, not plastic. I survived the first few attempts at home units with the Atari being the strongest competition. Nintendo finally shut me down shortly after Donkey Kong. You little f*ckers made me temporarily wealthy.

If you have a "Space Duel" or "Galaxian" machine in good working order, I'll give you $50 for it. But you don't get half of the quarters.

Spy Hunter and Battlezone were the two heaviest games I owned. More than 300 # each. I never played the games, I weighed them. I don't remember Road Blasters. Pole Position was the best car racing game I owned as far as earnings. It was heavy but it didn't need to be moved often. It would do $150 per week forever. I had 3 of them.

The only one I had that hasn't been posted on here is this one:

http://www.thegameconsole.com/atari7800.jpg

My 2600 had broke about a year before I got this one, we had tried to fix the 2600 but to no avail so this was under my christmas tree. It could play all of my 2600 cartrages plus new games with better graphics, almost as good as the 8 bit NES but the games weren't as good. But just as I got that the Nintendo became popular but my house was a popular hangout since these were failry rare and EVERYONE had a nintendo. The only difference was my controller had buttons on the upper sides.

Haven't seen this system posted yet. Not many people I knew had it, but it was definitely better than the 8 bit Nintendo. At that time though, Nintendo still had a stranglehold on developers.

This game, though, is still one of my favorites of all time and was EGM's 1987 game of the year, way ahead of its time as an RPG.
