Now the thing to keep in mind is that a lot of times these numbers also assume that we are going to resign all of our FA's for their current amount.

actually i think they don't include Team FA's at all, Morph.

but what they do assume is that the team is going to pay the big bonuses and huge final years of contracts for guys currently on the team.

like Tony Gonzalez ...... he's going into the final year of the contract. I assume that the final year is a huge cap number. He's already said he's going to void the final year.

Gonzo is either gone ... or will be signed to a much friendlier cap number. Tony's contract alone could free up 10 million dollars worth of cap room.

Ty law - iirc he was signed to a deal that could be just a 1 or 2 year deal. If it's just after 1 year ... then he could be gone too and whatever bonus that was due to keep him would come off the cap.

needless to say these salary cap numbers are very fluid ... this list is just a general estimate.

It's pretty easy to get good quickly in the NFL if you know how to draft and can get multiple picks together for trades.

And if you pick near the top for several straight years.

And if you pick near the top of the draft for several straight years.

Yeah, because all those picks in the 90's helped the Bengals out....Akili Smith, KiJana Carter....et. al.

So are you saying the Chiefs desire to be 9-7 every year is why San Diego is better than we are.....

Wouldn't they fall under the definition of "not drafting well"? What do they have to do with knowing how to draft, making good trades, and getting to pick near the top for a few years?

So are you saying the Chiefs desire to be 9-7 every year is why San Diego is better than we are.....
I'm saying the fact that San Diego 1) can draft fairly well, 2) made some trades that helped them, and 3) got repeated access to the top of a few years worth of draft classes all helped them get better quickly.

Only $7!!! That's barely enough money to woo a free agent with a McDonald's extra value meal!

Yeah and how did they do in 00's???

Palmer, C Johnson, J. Smith, Steinbech, C Perry before he got hurt havent helped them out recently???

You have to have a competent GM to draft studs especially when you have the higher draft position...

Hell the Cowboys made thier dynasty through being shitty and gettting the triplets...

Just because everyone uses the excuse of the Bengals in the 90's for being high and drafting shitty people... Looks like it was some seriously bad luck and crappy drafting...

Hey I can do one of these also..

Look at the Chiefs of 90's, they always won enough to get them in the playoffs but never drafted well enough to get them to win a game...

90. grunhard
91. crap
92. dale carter
93. crap
94. crap
95. crap
96. woods turned to crap real quick
97. TonyG
98. crap
99. Tait turned to crap

So always drafting near the middle without trading up had gotten them where exactly?? Where were D. Thomas and Neil Smith drafted at???

We got one pure stud that decade in the top two rounds... As shitty as the Bungles...

Drafting well will always trump drafting high. Look at the Pats and the core of their SB teams:

Their only really high pick is Richard Seymour.
(#6 overall, IIRC).
