Just good enough to not quite get it done. Just good enough to keep us as fans interested and pulling for the team. Just good enough to make us want to believe we are anything but what we are - an average NFL team.

We knew this day was coming. We knew it but chose to live in denial anyway. I hate facing the truth year in and year out. It wears me out every time it happens. Drains me, even though I knew it would happen. For the past eighteen years, it's always the same - almost, but not quite. I do believe I've had my fill of "not quite".

Now we get to say the same thing Chiefs fans have said the past 37 years -

There's always next year.

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

It wasn't good enough to keep me interested.

Hey! You quitter! We're still in this thing! As long as we run the table, and then have the Jets lose the next two games, Jacksonville to lose the next 2 games to ensure they don't beat us in a three way tie situation which is looking more likely, Denver to lose one of the next two games, have Cincy lose 2 of the next 3 games, but not to Denver because we need Denver to have a loss and against Cincy might be the best chance, and for Tennessee lose a game, and Buffalo lose a game, but Buffalo plays Tennessee next week, so the winner has to lose the other, and Pittsburgh has to lose a game, but not to Cincy because we need Cincy to lose 2 games that are not against Denver, and if all those things happen, we're in! Piece of cake.
