View Full Version : Anyone getting frustrated with Tynes?

I think he's had a pretty mediocre year. I got really pissed when he shanked that 45-yarder, although it might have been a problem with the hold.

I guess there isn't really a better option out there.

I am getting tired of Kicking 5 FG's each game though...

Good lord he shouldnt be our primary scoring threat every game....

El Jefe

Yes I am, he has been deceant inside of 40yds, the only nice long kick he has had all year was the 53 yarder against SD. We need a new kicker. I think that kick against SD was 53?

Hammock Parties

I think the key word is Huard...

He should be in all 3 phases of the game some way some how...

He should be in on Nickle packages, returns and for sure as a WR in the spread formation.

Sully "the best point you made is there is no one better". Josh Brown will be a free agent and we could possibly get him if he decides to see whats out there, but we might have to shell out for him. I would stay with Tynes and see if anybody else looks like a good option.

For the money we would have to spend in a bidding war on a kicker, I'd still say Tynes is the best option. So I suppose we agree.

I think one actually hit around the 19 or 20. Another one was at the 12 to 15, and others were at the 10.

He is a freakin undependable Bonehead-hopefully we will get someone good next year.

Hammock Parties
12-23-2006, 10:26 PM
I wouldn't call him "undependable." He's very solid under 40 yards. I was expecting him to take his place in the upper echelon of kickers this year, but he hasn't gotten over the hump.

13-15 under 40
9-13 40+ (2 misses over 50 yards)

3 years since he has been with us:

40+ - 20/34 - 5 misses over 50 + yards...

I didn't get to see the miss tonight but several of his misses this season were because of poor snaps, one he never got to swing at because Colquite botched the snap, tried a forward pass instead but got called for a fumble, the miss against Baltimore sure looked like it was inside the left post to me.

The dude is at 78% and missed 8 FG attempts total - and 3 of those are beyond 50. He isn't doing bad.

I am a little concerned with him for next year. He has missed a few too many this year. His leg strength sure aint the problem. Confidence is everything with kickers (obviously) , but I dont advocate spending a draft pick, and I don't really know who will be available in the offseason.

I think we need to stick with him, but he just has to gain more confidence somehow in the offseason.

I think we wont be doing much at all in FA this offseason. We have LJ, Mitchell, and possibly TG needing to get their contracts. I dont see how we can have much left. We have to have a good draft in 07 to keep the rebuilding process going. Maybe we could get a decent Guard in FA? I would imagine Shields is going to for sure retire.

Edit - or heck, a decent RT sure would be nice. We dont have one on our roster. Sampson will probably break his leg tripping over some roller skates or falling down the stairs in his home. He seems to be a walking catastrophy.

Dragging Gary Anderson out of retirement would be better. There is also an "Idiot" kicker recently cut by dallas that would be a huge upgrade.

That's a complete joke. I doubt Gary Anderson could make a 40-yarder at this point. Vanderjagt is a shank artist extraordinare. Tynes is easily superior to both.

No he couldn't... that was most of the reason he always went after Dungy in the media... Dungy would always bring in kickoff specalists because Vanderjagt couldn't cut it on kickoffs.

I think Tynes is a solid kicker. But he can be at times, inconsistent.

I think its clear his game needs work. I definately wouldn't consider him amongst the top kickers in the game.

I would like to see him be more automatic, especially kicking between 30-40 yards. Some of his missed FGs have made differences in ballgames. Just think if he had made those kicks, the outcome of the games might have been different?

If they pay Kawika Mitchell it will be a sure sign of the stupidity of this organization.....also giving LJ an extension after this year would be stupid too, considering the history of backs with these sort of carries. We'd look real smart to sign him to a new deal and have him not be the same....

They'll probably be active because they weren't very active last year. But it will be the general Carl, sign the players 30+ with big names give everyone hope be about the same team we were this year.

Tynes is #5th in FG's made in the NFL...

You also have to realize that Tynes kicked 14 times over 40+ yards...

Out of the 19 K that are 80% or better this year, only 4 have kicked 14+ past 40 yards... only 8 including the 4 metioned have kicked 10+ longer than 40+

On the flip side, the less you kick, the better % you have...

And J. Brown, who everyone here thinks Seattle would be stupid to let go is:

Under 40: 11/13 (Tynes 15/17)
40+: 10/14 (Tynes 9/14)

Very similar to Tynes #'s...

Lets sign Gary Coleman to be our kicker, and sign of those big guys from the worlds strongest man competition to be the holder. Then they can snap it Gary and have the big strong guy pick him up and throw him through the uprights like that metal guy did with Wolverine in X-men 3. This might work with Dante and Dunn.

Looking at them like that, Tynes is not so bad, I guess good teams actually attempt fewer fg from that distance. I think there is room for improvement though, especially on kickoffs. If Tynes could have given us one more fg vs denver we are in the playoffs.
