View Full Version : Can We Reverse The Dunn to IR Decision?

Can they take him off the IR or did Carl just screw us big time?

It is my understanding that once you are on IR, you cannot play anymore that season. If players could be moved off IR, teams would be using IR to keep a deeper roster for a given year.

We could cut him and sign him again, of course then you take a risk with waivers and what not.

No way he'd make it past waivers.

though Dunn is one of my favorite Chiefs, we did well without him last week and we will make due without him in Indy.

This is true. And the Jags have a top rated D. So maybe some silver lining there.

Yeah I agree it is a huge loss, but with the way we did against the Jags D-Line I think we will be fine. The Jags D-Line is way better than the Colts, the only need to worry about that decision is if we win and face SD, we would need him there.

From Whitlock's article... http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/sports/16363662.htm

When Dunn left Arrowhead, he told me that assistant general manager Denny Thum told him that the Chiefs regretted placing Dunn on IR and they wouldn’t have done it if they thought they were going to qualify for the playoffs.

Dunn was visibly disappointed.

“I could play four more games,” said Dunn, who admitted he’ll undergo surgery this offseason. “I’ve been playing with it.”

We could cut him and sign him again, of course then you take a risk with waivers and what not.

Bob Dole was under the impression that the claiming period ended with the conclusion of the regular season.

But assuming it doesn't, is the waiver system open to all clubs or only those clubs playing in the postseason. If it's limited to only those teams playing in the postseason, we'd get first shot at claiming anyone off waivers.

Wouldn't THAT be a sweet loophole?

He was so hurt he played all year with the injury. Face it smaq Peretson moved him to IR to make room for some practice squad guys and it might come back to bite us in the ass.

Dunn claims he has played all year with the injury and could go 4 more games.

Probably because Huard isn't as good as Bob Dole thinks?

Maybe if people like Kennison keep making all world catches he is. Nevermind the 1 fumble a game Huard was good for.

Or the 8 ft passes he got lucky a few times weren't picked off or didn't take guys out for the year.

That would be a sweet loophole, though we are the Chiefs so we would do it, and then the NFL would determine that it was illegal and will instead void the contract and take our second round draft pick, and then give it to Denver.

You're right, and I was less than optimistic as well... I don't blame CP for the decision. It's unfortunate, yes, but a mistake MANY of us would have made.

Maybe we should just put him in a #12 jersey, paint him white, and tell the refs Croyle has learned to play TE?

Hey, it worked in the movie "White Chicks".

If Carl really did put him on IR just because he was "sure" that we wouldn't get into the playoffs hes a dumbass. Whats the point of doing that unless your TOTALLY sure that your not in. Jason himself said that he could of played through it...

Is there an advantage to putting him on the IR before the season ends???

Sorry smaq I have to disagree. Fans had them done. But as a GM as long as there is a chance you have to cater to that happening. You can't throw in the towel on the best blocking TE in the league simply because the odds are against you if YOU are the ine in charge of the team.

If he really has a herniated disk...he probably shouldn't be playing anyway.

He may be the best blocking TE in the league...but not if his back is hurting.

He could risk a more severe injury. IMHO.

K then how was he cleard to play up until now then?

Kylo Ren

I'd rather have Dunn, but I would imagine that they'll use Bober or Terry as the blocking TE when needed. The Chiefs website shows Turley as placed on IR, but he's also listed on the depth chart as the #1 RT.

Which sends me back to Carl being a bonehead and benching someone we need for the playoffs. I am disappointed in CP right now. Seems he threw in the towel with the fans. But he is not a fan he runs the team and it looks bad when your GM is throwing in the towel before all the cards are played and you still have a chance.

Holy hell. How hard is this to understand.

To recap. Dunn has played with this injury for the last 6 weeks (prior to Week 17). He stated that he could play another 4 games (i.e. though the SB) with the injury.

Over the last 6 weeks, LJ has rushed for 126.7 yards per game, with a 4.58 YPC average. In the 10 weeks prior to Dunn's injury, he averaged 99.3 YPG and 4.12 YPC. Tell me exactly how Dunn has been ineffective with his injury?

It's a bad decision. Put down the Kool-aid.

No kool-aid here; i am not defending the IR decision. Just reviewing the facts.

Never said JD has been ineffective, merely just stating that this could become a problem...granted he says he has played with it this long. But...it could become a more severe problem at any time.

Football aside, a herniated disc is nothing to mess around with.

Just an FYI, but any response that isn't COMPLETELY critical of Herm and/or Carl is considered a de facto "defense" of Carl and/or Herm.

So we lost Dunn for the rest of the year due to a bumblef*ck by our GM. I guess we have been "Carl Petersonned". Titus, please add this term to the lexicon. It will be useful in the future as we get Carl Petersonned several times each year.
