View Full Version : Most Embarrassing Loss in Chiefs History

Last week had to be up there, but what was the most embarrassing loss in Chiefs history?

Was it the Monday Night Meltdown
The 1995 loss
The 1997 loss
The 2003 lack of stops
The Entire 1977 season
The 1993 AFC Championship
The Shitsburgh game from this year?
The Super Bowl I beat down?

That one was bad. Old man Moon's last NFL start (Grbac injured finger?). Pathetic. Hideous. Beaten by a 1-15 team for their ony win. Still, that miserable performance at Indy last week is hard to wash down.

Getting "thrashed" in OT on a the Nedney kick by the Raitards in 1999 (or early '00) after leading 17-0 in the first quarter.

The 1991 game at Buffalo. They just demolished us. We laid down in that game too.

I think its last weeks loss. Lets face facts thats the worst offensive performance by a playoff team in the modern age. No 1st down till late in the 3rd quarter? Are you kidding me!!

"Let me start out saying this: Do NOT blame that game on the defense, OK? I don't care who you play, whether it's a high school team, a junior college team, a college team, much less an NFL team, when you don't make yor first 1st down till late in the 3rd quarter ... you ain't gonna beat anybody. That was a disgraceful performance ... We gave it away. We gave them the frigging game. In my opinion, that sucked.

"I mean, it's absolutely pitiful to play like that. ... Horrible. Just horrible. Horrible."

Monday night meltdown gets consideration because it was such a shameful performance by a player that I was so attached to.

The 1-15 Chargers game comes to mind for the sheer history of it, but in reality only Chiefs and Chargers fans will remember 10 years from now.

That Oakland rain game (Gun's last as HC?) because the entire team seemed to quit while on the field. Just horrible.

For me, this last play-off game wasn't all that bad. Yea, the offense was embarrassing, but the offense had shown it was capable of looking that bad all year. And the defense actually looked good for a good part of the game. It just didn't bother me as much as some of the others.

I was at that game in San Diego. Warren Moon was chosen to start over Todd Collins, though Collins was number two on the depth chart. So weird. Bad game.

Unfortunately I was at that game. The Chiefs offense looked completely inept, kinda like in Indy a couple weeks ago. Shitty part about it was Tony Richardson runs to the one yard line for a first down late in the game. I think, yeah!, we are about to get the go ahead TD and win this game. Instead, Richardson gets called for removing his helmet, 15 yard penalty. Instead of being 1st and 15 to get the TD, the refs **** it up and make it 3rd and 15. We end up settling for a field goal. Even the Charger fans were like, wtf are they doing? The Chiefs got a letter apologizing for the mistake a few days later from the league, so it was all good.

Sure, we've been beaten worse, but to be beaten like that by a team that has a horrid defense in the frickin playoffs.

OK i've read these and the one that still to this day makes me mad is the playoff 1997 game

Two really contreversal calls

One Tony Gonzalez getting pushed out of the endzone by the denver defender.

Second us making a field goal which would have won us the game only to have it called off cause of a holding call which even the analysts on the game couldn't find.

Denver barely beats us and goes on to win the superbowl.

A week or so later after reviewing the plays the nfl writes an appology to Lamar Hunt and the KC Chiefs.

Thanks for the appology can we now have the superbowl trophy you took away from us.

It's almost ten years later and i'm still pissed about that game and I dindn't even mention the vassaline on the o line's jerseys

And to this day that is why of all the teams in the NFL I hate the Denver Broncos the MOST!

Had to be said anyone agree.

Broncos 30, CHIEFS 7
Broncos a perfect 10-0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- John Elway? Bubby Brister? Who cares?
Whoever plays quarterback for the Denver Broncos, they look like they're on the way to an unbeaten season.
The 36-year-old Brister, reborn as Elway's backup, ran 38 yards for a touchdown on the first series, then Terrell Davis went 41 yards for a score as the Broncos jumped to a quick lead and went on to a 30-7 win over Kansas City on Monday night.
The victory made the Broncos the first 10-0 team in the NFL since the 1991 Washington Redskins, and put them on track for a Dec. 21 confrontation in Miami with the Dolphins, who in 1972 were the last NFL team to go unbeaten.
"If we do what were supposed to do and we don't have any major injuries, I don't see why we can't do it," Brister said of the possibility of going unbeaten.
Brister, now 4-0 as a starter this year, finished 13-of-23 for 180 yards and Davis, who leads the NFL in rushing, carried 18 times for 111 yards and Brister added 53 more on five carries as Denver ran for 211 yards.
The Broncos' defence, meanwhile, held the Chiefs to 31 yards on the ground.
"I don't feel like a backup," said Brister, who had 71 starts for Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and the Jets in 10 seasons before sitting out 1996 and then joining the Broncos last year.
"I've always felt like a starter, but there's only one of them and I've had guys like Boomer Esiason and John Elway ahead of me."
It was the fifth straight loss the Kansas City (4-6), which looked before the season like the most dangerous threat to the Broncos in both the AFC West and AFC as a whole.
But the Chiefs, who had never had even a four-game losing streak in Marty Schottenheimer's 10 seasons as coach, looked like a dispirited bunch against the Broncos, who now have outscored opponents 114-13 in first quarters this season.
It took just 2:42 for Denver to take a 7-0 lead, on the bootleg around right end by the 36-year-old Brister, who is now 4-0 as a starter in place of Elway, who is nursing pulled rib muscles. Brister was virtually untouched after his fake to Davis pulled the entire Kansas City defence to the opposite side of the field.
The next score was even quicker -- a 79-yard drive that took only three plays and 1:05 and was capped by the burst by Davis, who finished with 111 yards on 18 carries. He was tripped up 10 yards downfield, regained his balance, and continued on into the end zone.
That was the game.
The Chiefs cut it to 14-7 on an 87-yard drive that consumed almost eight minutes of the second quarter and was capped by a three-yard TD pass to Kimble Anders from Rich Gannon, filling in for the benched Elvis Grbac.
But Jason Elam added 42 and 46-yard field goals before the half and a 35-yarder in the third quarter. Things officially ended with 7:36 left in the game when Gannon, who finished 26-of-39 for 224 yards, tripped and fell at the 20 on a fourth down at the Denver 10.
"We ran 19 times for 31 yards and we wanted to run 35 times for 200 yards," Gannon said. "We have too much talent in the locker room to be playing the way we are. The mistakes and the penalties are killing us. We're not playing very good football."
Derrick Loville added a final TD for the Broncos on a one-yard run.
The game had deteriorated by then -- Kansas City had five personal fouls, three by Derrick Thomas, on the drive. The Chiefs finished with 13 penalties for 137 yards.
This had looked like a possible trouble spot for Denver, particularly since it had lost its last three regular season games at Arrowhead. But the Broncos beat the Chiefs 14-10 in a playoff game last January.
Denver plays Oakland at home next week. The Broncos also have road games at San Diego and the New York Giants and a home game with the Chiefs before playing the Dolphins, who lead the AFC East at 7-3.

The year before, by the way, the Chief beat the Raiders three times, including on back-to-back weeks spanning the regular and post seasons.
