So, I'm on my second HR20 DVR from DirectTV. It doesn't work any better than the first one. We frequently miss recorded shows, are forced to reset the thing, and yesterday I missed 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter of the Bears/Saints game due to the unit inexplicably pausing itself and not responding to any remote commands.

I've spoken to their CSRs and they have a software update planned for early February. They would like me to "hang in there" until then. I mean, this is a unit I've had since September and it's NEVER worked correctly and now I'm supposed to risk my Super Bowl party on it?

Wow that is scary!

I have a DTV Tivo box (not HD) and havent had one problem in 3 + years of service.

Sorry to hear that!

It's DirectTV's second generation HD DVR effort since splitting from TiVo. Some of the boxes work fine (evidently) and many customers experience the same trouble we have.

The fact that it was 2nd generation was very attractive to me. But it's still garbage.

Ouch, sorry to hear that Phobs.

I have the HR20 and haven't had any problems in two months of owning it, so it's still early.

Well, I thought I was one of the lucky ones when you posted this a month or two back. Never had a problem.

Until this week.

This "software update" better ****ing work.

The only reason I switched to this POS is so I could watch my locals in HD without an OTA antenna.

Yeah, I have one of those. But I'm rather used to doing my own replays. It's a very attractive feature for me especially when the network would rather pan the stands or show me a coach picking his nose than show pertinent replays.

I've had one since September and never had any issues until yesterday. It paused and wouldn't respond during the Bears game and inexplicably stopped recording in the middle of Rome. I also noticed you can fast forward x4 now which is way to fast to time for an appropriate stopping point. I'm sure with a little practice I'll get better...

Glad you brought this up?
How in th8e hell do you get the tuners to stay on a channel.

Before I could tell my tuners which channel I wanted them on while I watch T.V. That way I could flick between the 2 channels and rewind to where I left off.

Now I can't get but one channel on a tuner.
