Per Rotoworld....

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Chiefs guard Will Shields' final game in the NFL is expected to be Saturday's Pro Bowl.

A Pro Bowler for the twelfth consecutive time this year and a certain Hall of Famer, Shields' loss could be devastating for a line that struggled to replace retired LT Willie Roaf all last year while also playing musical chairs between guard and right tackle. This is another great concern for Larry Johnson after he set the single-season carries record in 2006

Well, we knew it wouldn't be long. I can't say I'm anywhere near happy about it though.

Will Shields was definitely one dimensional. No way he makes it on First Ballot... I mean, I was gonna vote for him until Bob Gretz mentioned his one dimensionality.

Will Shields was a GREAT Chief! Last years performance was average at best. Many of the sacks that I expected to blame on Black were from Shields man.

Here's what Schefter's story says....

WILL TO WIN
Tiki Barber might not be the only Pro Bowl selection to wrap up his football career at Saturday night's Pro Bowl.

Chiefs guard Will Shields, who was selected to his franchise-record 12th straight Pro Bowl, is leaning towards retiring rather than returning for his 15th NFL season, said two NFL sources close to the Kansas City lineman.

Shields debated retiring after last season, but former Chiefs offensive tackle Willie Roaf helped convince Shields to return. Then Roaf decided to retire on the eve of training camp, and Shields, who has played in 221 consecutive games, is back to where he was last season.

Those who know Shields best say that he has debated retirement for a while now, it is almost an annual ritual. Difference is, this year he sounds more serious about it than ever before. If Shields does indeed walk away from the game, pencil him in to the Pro Football Hall of Fame five years from now. Shields has been one of the game's top lineman for over a decade now.

In addition to being a quality lineman, he has been a quality person. Shields won the 2003 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, the most prestigious accolade that can be bestowed on an active player.

After watching him get beat a lot yesterday, sadly. I'm thinking that struggling yesterday will be enough to push him to retire.

So long Will, its been a great ride. This guy will be a lock first balloter IMVHO, he has the supreme respect of everyone in the NFL as evidenced by eleventy-billion Pro Bowls. The voters would be going against OVERWHELMING professional sentiment not to shoo him in at the 1st opportunity.

Farewell, Will Shields. You were a warrior and an excellent example to young men everywhere.

Another chapter closed and another great talent wasted for the most part. There have been far too many.

I think this is last years news and the good old NFL network doesn't think anyone will notice because Sheilds plays for a team in the fly over territory.
