For the death of Dr. Robert Adler -- the Emmy-award winning inventor of the TV wireless remote control.

Dr. Alder held 180 patents. One of them being the 1956 Zenith "Space Command" -- the world's first wireless TV remote control.

I call on every Couch Potato to proclaim this a day of national mourning and rememberance -- and a moment of "mute".

I didn't have a remote control TV until the late 70's. My first VCR cost $600 and had a wire type remote.

Oddly, residential carpet holds up better because of the tv remote. Back in the early 80's, before they were common, the carpet in front of the television was always crushed and matted because of the pivoting at that spot. It was always one of the first areas to go. Today, due to the miracle from Dr. Alder, carpet can look fresh and new for years longer.
