personally i couldn't give a rip about the 40 time for an offensive lineman. A quick first step or 2 is all that they need.

BROWN GOING DOWN?

Though the workouts at the scouting combine won't be aired on the NFL Network until 11:00 a.m. EST on Saturday, a source in Indy tells us that the running of the offensive linemen has begun, and that one of the presumed first-round prospects put up a sssssslow time.

Penn State tackle Levi Brown posted a 5.39 in the 40.

For a lineman, that's bad. Real bad.

Another potential first-rounder who put up a slow time was Texas guard Justin Blalock, who posted a 5.31.

On the other hand, I heard Blalock threw up 225 lbs. 40 times. So he's a slow mauler. Sounds great as a guard. Levi threw it up 31 times, still pretty solid.

eh, so he won't ever be a pulling guard... nobody expected that from him in the first place... if that puts him in our back yard, I'll be very happy

The reason people will jump all over Blalock is one of his knocks is he looks sloppy and out of shape....so things like that all go hand and hand with each other.

According to this Blalock didnt do quite that bad in the 40.

I'd rather not take either of them in the 1st anyway.

We wouldn't use him to cover the other teams #1 receiver, and we won't split him out wide. As long as he can be an effective roadblock for our QB's blindside, I couldn't care less what he ran in the 40.

In other words, so what?

I would take Brown not sold on Blalock though.

LOL, I saw this about Brown too. Would teams really be stupid enough to pass on him because his 40 time wasn't low enough? I would love it if he fell in our laps.

I wonder what sort of 40 time Willie Roaf ran? 11.89??

This sort of nonsense is why the combine is overblown..

Hell, Roaf would look for his keys if he had to go 40 yards quickly.
