KRUMRIE BEATS UP BRANCH

Word trickling out of the Michigan Pro Day is that Chiefs defensive line coach Tim Krumrie roughed up defensive tackle Alan Branch in one of Krumrie's one-on-one slap fights.

Per a league source, Branch looked winded before he even got to the patented Krumrie spanking machine. At one point during his session with Krumrie, Branch appeared to be ready to quit.

Gil Brandt of NFL.com corroborates this in his Pro Day updates: "Tim Krumrie worked Branch hard during the position drills, and the scouts there said Branch did not look like he was in very good shape."

Krumrie, better known to most fans as the guy who got Theismanned during Super Bowl XXIII, is a legend in league circles for the no-pads hand-fighting test, to which he subjects many of the linemen he is scouting.

"It's Gladiator stuff," said one league source.

For Branch, who is projected by many as a top-ten pick, the end result apparently was thumbs down.

Krumie is a good coach, at training camp you could hear him across the parking lot yelling at our defensive line. He gets in there and knocks around with them.

Hell; he probably beats the hell out of them in practice -- then come game day they are so worn out and beat up to play...

I think he has done a pretty good job with the talent he was given. It's not his fault Sims is a piece of sh*t, blame DV.

He did that crap when he was with the Bills too.....then in the mid rounds they picked a DT from Ohio State, Tim Anderson, cause he held his own with Krumrie in the "wrestling match".

And the guy has always sucked, from day 1, and never been good.........I seriously hope they don't use this as some barometer for picking.

Yeah.

In the end, I don't much care what you do at the combine or the pro days.

The only question I want an answer to with regards to your playing ability is this:

Did you produce on the field in games?

bdeg

I agree with that about 90%. College production is huge, but its not necessarily everything.

Ex. Quinn Pitcock had 8 sacks and a good # of tackles last year. Do you think he should go in the first round?

Hopefully he can fall all the way to #23...

Hell yeah I would still take him. Krumrie needs to stop spanking his players and tell them to sack the freaking QB.

If he falls to lets say, 15 or 16? would you trade up to try and get him?

I like his size. 6'6 330Ilbs

6'6 330 almost makes him not a cover 2 player.......

He's falling because at his pro day he looked lazy and was sucking wind real fast.

The 07 version of Brodrick Bunkley?

Except they're not at all similar.

Bunkley's hardly a lost cause talent-wise anyway.

If he falls that far and Denver doesn't trade up or down, there's no way he makes it past the Broncos at 21.

I'm not even going to get my hopes up. There's no way we get lucky enough that Branch falls that far.

Better yet, he does and we draft someone else.

Branch would be like Siavii if instead of starting in juco, Siavii had played every game as a freshman at Michigan, then played every game as a sophomore, starting 10, and then started every game as a junior, being named first team all-big 10.

He also has experience playing three-technique in the 4-3, so he'd be fine in the tampa-2.

But it's a pipe-dream. He's way, way too good to fall to 23.

If Branch falls all the way to #23, you have to at least look at him. He's got everything you look for physically.

But I wouldn't give away picks to move up and get him, he's got attitude issues.

Remember what happened with Gabe Watson last year. Who knows, Branch may end up falling like a meteor...

Let me get this straight, you read one article about Tim Krumrie's hand slap test and you make THAT judgement? You don't watch much college ball, do you, oh yeah that's right - you're in Toronto, nevermind. :shake:

Branch played in the Big 10 (11) with the 3rd toughest schedule in the NCAA last season and totally kicked ass, if he's lazy before the draft of course that will hurt him, but Sims? Come on dude, his name wasn't even brought that much the year prior to his selection - except maybe here. Furthermore, North Carolina doesn't exactly light it up every year against real comepetition, so Julius was the exception, mainly because he was such a f*ck up nobody else wanted him (of course I would want him as a Chief for sure, he gets after it).

I have always thought Branch would be a great pick for us at 23, I don't know what htismaqe is talking about with attitude issues, I haven't heard anything from Ann Arbor about that - but I wouldn't doubt what he say for the most part.

My firm belief is that anyone on this thread so far who thinks Branch is Junior or Sims either never watches college ball or simply doesn't pay attention to detail (and I am not talking stats - Mecca I know you watch all the time, you're excluded) Branch is solid.

I want us to get a defensive tackle that plays with another DT that everyone recognizes as being an absolute scrub. No more "the guy opposite Julius Peppers" or "the guy opposite Igor Olshansky". I want the guy that played opposite "the guy noone ever freakin' heard of and never will".

Pitt Gorilla

The ONLY reason I brought up Junior was that people were enamored with his size as well. Other than that, there may be no comparison.

Maybe if we generate the rumor of said "issues" it will help perpetuate his late April drop.

Krumrie wouldn't DARE trying that crap with Rich Scanlon. Scanlon would slap him so hard it would leave a bruise on his Driver's License picture.
