Saturday, March 17
The Kansas City Chiefs, who have spent the past week bolstering their defensive line, did it again. They reached agreement with free-agent DE Jimmy Wilkerson, who spent the past four seasons with the Chiefs. Wilkerson signed a one-year deal.

Glad to see him back in the fold at DE/DT.

Seeing as he is a backup rotational guy I hope he got paid as such.

Good re-sign.....he will never be spectacular, but provides solid depth and is just now coming into his prime years.

Awesome. Would like to see Reed resigned as well.

Wish the contract were for more than one year, though.

Wilkerson always seems to put in some good downs when he is in. Glad to see him back.

Wilkerson has been one of the few DT's we have had who seems to make plays. Hopefully he earns some more time on the field.

Jimmy signed a one-year deal. Does this mean they want to see if he can start?

That sums up my sentiments on it, when the guy is in...they are calling his name.

Yet another smart move for 07.

Yeah. Good.
I had read he wsa visiting teams and was hoping we'd re-sign him. Now maybe he could bunk with LJ in camp and learn how to be angry....

I'm glad he's back.

Solid depth, who'll be able to hold down the DE spot while Jared Allen serves his suspension, then fit into the rotation along the line.

Good to have him back; I'd hoped for a 3-4 year deal. If nothing else, he's quality depth.

Now we just need to get Simms back......

He's gone...

I wish he'd have stayed in school another year because then he'd have been good enough to be a 1st round draft pick - errrr, so I've heard.

Eat. At Gates. Six nights a week. In addition to Supper. And hit the weightroom 4 days a week for at least 2 hours. And, oh yeah...you are gonna play DT. No more DE."

We always seem to misuse players.

Hell, Gunt even misused DT.

I never liked how he forced him into a 3 point stance.

Agreed. We should never have switched from a 3-4 while DT was in his prime years.

Not a big deal either way. Some depth is always a good idea.

Good to see Jimmy come back, but I'm withholding my judgment until I see figures. The Packers wanted him and they're loaded. If we won Jimmy in a bidding war, I can almost guarantee we overpaid him.

Getting Reed back would be nice, but I'd put him behind McKinley right now. I'd like the Chiefs to gnab Alvin McKinley, maybe get Reed too if we can afford it, draft somebody and let the six of them go to town on each other for the starting positions.

He couldn't grow because Sims kept beating him at dominos and winning his lunch money. That and living in DJ house. With DJ banging all that hot poontang and keeping him awake all night. Or is that Fox?

Thats been my take on Top Jimmy for atleast a year now, load some top dawg status on him while showing some love & watch him give back.

Jimmys been one of my "GUT" guys for awhile.

We may see Jimmy Wilkerson starting the first 4 games of the season because of Jared Allen's likely suspension. I'm not sure who else would step in for Allen, unless they move Eric Hicks to that side.

I'm ambivalent. I think it's a good signing, but only because there's not much available this year. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to be upset about, either.

He's someone who's always struck me as 'could be good, in time' but I never know why I think that, and time has passed and he isn't quite there.

My guess would be the 1-year contract is by his request. He is hoping to win a starting job somewhere and doesn't want to be committed and tied down.

Wilkerson left OU after his junior year to provide for his family. He's a solid inside player, his weakness is stopping the run/size...but great at applying pressure on QB.

So IYO if we beef him up he is a starter, right?

He should be a starter IMO. Or at least get a majority of minutes inside. He's coming into his prime and like I said, left a year early out of college so physically he might be a year behind in NFL progress. He didnt show up much in the stats last year, but I saw his jersey doing damage on a number of occasions. Is he a pro bowler? No. But a significant contributor, yes.

Wilkerson actually had more tackles then Ron Edwards last season.

Despite their huge difference in minutes, that doesnt surprise me at all. Edwards is one of the worst DT's i've ever seen at making a lateral move to tackle a ballcarrier, he stands his guy up & thats about it.

If a real prize isnt found in the draft, i hope they start Jimmy at DT next to Boone.

Jimmy is in the game a relatively small number of plays, but makes a relatively large number of good plays, pressures, tackles etc. He should be bulked up and start at DT. Jimmy likes D tackle.
