I'm sure it's been asked before. I'm running on alot of driving and little sleep. Long story short, I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

What does this phrase mean anyway?

I've never really followed any one particular college team. There are a few I'm leaning towards for one reason or another. You can also take this opportunity to make a case for KU. They're under consideration. :)

I've narrowed it down to KU or Memphis. I'm leaning towards KU, though.

Before getting on here, I once participated in an NCAA bracket pool (like I usually do). I had KU winning it all. They lost in the chamionship game. If they would have won, I would have won a bunch of money. Because they didn't, I ended up in third. No money for third. The guy who ended up winning told me to never follow KU, because they would always lead me astray.

Chiefs lead me astray all the time, but I'm still a fan. Same could go for KU (if that happened).

And someone telling you to avoid a team is all the more reason to embrace them. Haters need to be put down. That's what makes the brother/sisterhood strong. All for one... one for all in JayhawkNation!

You can't worry about tourney letdowns luv. To be a fan is to be a fan no matter what. If you really love a team the wins mean a lot more than winning money. If you really want to choose a team to be a fan of then get invested in them... no matter who it is. learn about the school, know the players, follow them and feel the pain as well as the happiness. The hard times make the good times that much better. That's why we KU fans are so fricking giddy about this years team... we've had a lot of pain lately... but none of us would trade teams for anything.

Where are you from originally? The team from there should/could mean something to you.

KU is the 5th winningest program of all time, behing UK, UCLA, UNC, and Duke. And KU is the only one with a losing record against the other 4. You may have invented the game, and you may play it extremely well, but you are certainly not the premiere program. Sorry.

I think they are 3rd all time. Don't quote me on that, though. They are definitely one of the top programs but when you only have 1 national title in the last 50 years that doesn't say "premiere program" to me. Even then they couldn't defend that title because they were put on probation afterwards. They are also one of the few (maybe only) programs that has been on probation every decade since the 50's. That's unreal.

It's because the BCS conferences right now get guaranteed money for those bowls, and a playoff system would divide the money up further (so they think). Then you throw Notre Dame in the mix, too. They would cry about it so much that NBC would not allow a playoff system to be created.

I didn't verify it, but they had a short speal during todays game and showed graphics about each of the Top 5 all time programs, and their tourney appearances/wins. They went on to say that the only program with a winning record against the other 4 is UNC, and the only one with a losing record to the other 4 is KU. That actually changed a bit today, as KU is now 1-1 against UK after winning today.

It's all about perception. Go scour some SEC/ACC/Big East boards in your free time, many don't like to pick KU for the title "because they choke..." Previous performances should not (rationally) be held in to account like that, but they are. They have a reputation for choking.

Yeah, UK hasn't been very good lately. Tons of UK fans want Tubby Smith fired.

A friend of mine told me that a #1 seed has always won the tournament. I didn't think Florida was a #1 seed last year, so I decided to look it up.

According to that list, Villanova was 8 in 1985.

I grew up in Springfield, and there's a big community there dedicated to the Lady Bears. I went to a lot of games when I was younger, and the games were almost always close to being sold out.

Of course, I was young when Melanie Howard was playing, but yeah...

Charity Shira, Melody Howard, Julie Howard, Tonya (I want to say Bruton), grrr...I can't remember the point guard's name. I believe Charity Shira is on the coaching staff there now.

as they said on TV today:

KU is the 5th winningest program of all time, behing UK, UCLA, UNC, and Duke. And KU is the only one with a losing record against the other 4. You may have invented the game, and you may play it extremely well, but you are certainly not the premiere program. Sorry.

Tournament wins, not all time wins. KU has the third most wins all-time. We have 4 National Championships [2 NCAA Championships] 12 Final Four Appearances, and 15 All-American players. That seems pretty "Premiere" to me.

Don't you hate that? So many games for one network to cover. Although, they do try to wait for a "dead" time in one game to show some excitement in another game. I think they've done a pretty good job with that. Skip is right, though (gasp :p ). Should be better now.

Actually, they could have had the Texas or :KU: game opposite the first game of the day. (there was no game there) Instead, they put the two Big XII games opposite each other.
