Chiefs plan office building

The Kansas City Chiefs announced today they will build a $30-million office building to house administrative staff that must vacate Arrowhead Stadium during renovations.

Chiefs president/general manager Carl Peterson said the team would pay for the project and would not use public bond money that voters approved a year ago. The building will be owned by Jackson County and leased back to the team.

The 85,000-square-foot building will include a three-story atrium in the shape of a football that will connect to the existing Chiefs training facility. The project will also add 20,000 square feet to the training facility for new locker rooms and an equipment room.

Work is to begin in May and be complete by summer 2008.

Work will begin in September on renovations to Arrowhead with a goal of completing it by the 2009 season. That will require the Chiefs’ 155 full-time employees to move out of the stadium.

“We need a place to put our people,” Peterson said. “We’re in the business of professional football.”

I insist that the public pay for this building. It's only fair.

Mr. Peterson appreciates your offer to donate funds. Please write the words "donation" in the memo portion of your check.

Okay, that's neat.

So, are we ever going to find out the plans for the Truman Sports Complex, or is that ultra top-secret?

There's info and renderings on both teams web sites.

You know, when my office has to relocate, we usually just find another building.

But building another one altogether is okay I suppose.

I am actually wondering if the Chiefs will pay for this or get it labeled as necesary for renovations and let the city pay for it.

OK..so they're in this new building during renovations...

So what does Jack-me-off County do with it when they move into their new digs at Arrowhead?

What is the time frame for the stadium improvements?

Don't construction times usually double from whatever is estimated? If the new offices aren't completed until 2009 how much time would they spend in the building before moving to the new Arrowhead [insert name of future corporate sponsor].

Yeah, and Carl Peterson is 100% accurate and truthful in all his public statements.

I believe Nick Athon is paying $500 towards the costs. At least that is what he has pledged.

Sounds like those offices are going to be the permanent offices for the administrative staff and that will free up space inside the stadium for new amenities for the fans.

What doesn't make any sense is the Chiefs are building them, selling them to Jackson County, and then paying rent on them. Something's missing or the Chiefs are just doing an about face and spending some money. How does this deal make sense? There has to be more to it

How would you know?

It's pretty much common knowledge and their practice facilities and whatnot are not up to par. Have you ever seen Baltimore's setup? It puts KC's to shame.

Yeah, and Carl Peterson is 100% accurate and truthful in all his public statements.

So if you're going to inherently distrust everything the man says without thinking about it, why go to the trouble of posting about it?

Just ignore his lies and move on.

No comment on the rumor that Clark Hunt has undergone some type of cosmetic surgery as well.

That extra 85,000 square feet is long overdue to house King Carl's ego, especially in 2 years when the King retires from his GM post and is annointed as God by the Hunt family
