Got to give it up for Herm and CP! A fresh new approach is something I have hoped for for a couple of years now. I didn't think the front office had the nads to do something like this... and it appears we are not done blowing it up yet... and I am 100% behind this approach. Even if we do not have a fantastic year in the won/loss column, you will not see Coogs doing any bashing of the Chiefs this next football season. Once again....

It's nice to see turnover on a team that was pretty much average last year. And also good to see that vested vets aren't necessarily safe from these moves.

Pretty much my favorite offseason in a long time. I've liked every move so far and if the draft goes well you have to like the direction this team is headed.

It was time to get younger. I've got faith in Herm as a talent evaluator but I'm still not sold on his coaching ability. I'm willing to wait two years but then I'll get restless if we are still a 9-7/10-6 team.

Yep! Even if we have to take a step back in the win/loss column for a bit, this is refreshing.

Exactly.

If Herm wasn't here, these deadbeats would likely still be on the roster.

People complained about DV's "loyalty", yet Herm can't take out the trash?

I really want to have faith in Herm, but watching his sideline performance has not done much for confidence.

So, do you think they're just going to focus on the draft for WR help? Risky for 2007 upgrades in that area... long term it's good, but I am surprised that they really have done nothing to help that position.

Not much available in FA (I'm not high on Bennett, Stallworth, or Curtis) and Herm is high on Webb and Hannon. The Chiefs will add one the 1st day of the draft and hope for the best IMO.

Herm says he'd judge players on if they're

1.) ascending
2.) plateauing
3.) descending

Wesley = plateau
Knight = descending
Turley = descended to depths of hell
Sims = never was
Kawika = plateau
Green = descending

still to come..
Surtain = ? descending
Law = ? descending
Parker = never was

See I don't think Surtain and Law did that bad with the scheme they were in or the lack of pass rush.. Granted they did not earn the pro bowl pay the received, but they did an awesome job with our front four giving the QB all day to throw... Besides Law falling down those few times...

Unless a CB is getting an Int you really dont want to hear their names called..

Imagine four consecutive drafts as good as the one we had last year during the Herm Edwards tenure.

We should be a pretty good team for years.

All the good WR prospects are either headcases or decent players that got gobbled up by the Patriots.

There's nothing out there. We'll probably gnab a good #3 man and draft a rook to start.

These are the remaining FAs (note that this does not count out possible trades -- but Herm's only trading for picks, not players).

Player, Position, Status, Height/Weight, Experience, Team

Corey Bradford WR UFA 6-1 201 9 Lions
Troy Brown WR UFA 5-10 196 14 Patriots

Tell me when Solari is gone.

I remember hearing and reading where Al Saunders had one of the most complicated offenses in the NFL. It worked here with the talent we had at the time. But most all of those players are pretty much gone or soon to be gone. Holmes, Roaf, Green, Shields, several RT's, T Rich, Dunn, etc..

Herm made a comment a couple of days ago that the offense needed to be simplified. Simplified does not have to mean 3 runs and a punt. Just a simpler playbook for the players... and the OC... to go by.

These past two days have been just what the doctor ordered for me with regards to the Chiefs.

I would have liked to grab Justin Gage but I think he just signed with someone.

Hometown boy with good hands. Average size and speed but plays smart and can catch.

You could say Herm was conservative a lot last year but until Huard got comfortable I don't blame him. We had LJ and a defense that was showing signs of being something.

Once Huard got some seasoning and Green came back we opened it up a little.

His arse didn't seem to pucker up again until the opening kickoff in Indi...

Gage hasn't really done anything as a pro. His four years combine into a decent NFL season for a receiver. It was the Titans that signed him.

I agree with what most of you guys said about the Herm's team develpment and draft skillz, but my jury is still WAY out in terms of his sideline abilities on game day.
Though, he was working with a new OC and mainly DV's players. I'm optimistically thinking he'll get better when he's got his own indoctrinated dudes in there. A physical, run-heavy O and the "cover who?" becomes the Tampa Two.

Yeah, I know, then I'll win the Lottery and Marry Pamela Anderson.

But I'm thinking that a rebuilding year is the best we can hope for. Give me one Flea-flicker for a TD and I'll be satisfied.

DE Hali
DE Allen
DT Boone
DT Reed (sign Ian Scott, Carl)
OLB Edwards

OLB Johnson
CB Law
CB Surtain
FS Page
SS Pollard

Not too bad...

Hell, I don't know why KC wouldn't look at a short term deal for Bryant, Wilford or even McCardell. They'd be cheap and you never know.

Bryant has talent, but he is a headcase.I would imagine they're intending to give an opportunity to either Webb (6th rounder last year) or Hannon (UFA last). They're both big guys (Webb's 6'2, 211; Hannon's 6'3, 205) with some speed who had last year to learn the playbook. Kennison is still around. Then add a pick or two into the mix.

Just my guess. It wouldn't shock me to see a cheap signing, but I don't think any of the receivers are worth what they're going for this offseason. I'd be just as satisfied with staying away unless you can get a real deal. McCardell, for instance, I think would be a bad idea at this point unless it's for a song. Don't want to tie up future cap dollars, especially not for a geezer, when we're apparently working at cleaning the cupboard

Just the way I see it right now.

No way I want Bryant or McCardell. Another problem child and a guy so old he needs a walker.

Wilford and Hackett and the 2 most interesting to me, because they are still young. That backfires though, as they are both RFA. Engram or Moulds would be work a short-term flyer, but still won't be cheap.

True, Bryant is talented and a major headcase but he'll also be missing the first 2 games of the year for a violation of the league's substance abuse policy.
It's 4 in total. He missed his first 2 at the end of last season. Sort of the reason the 49'ers released him.
