View Full Version : Vote for the best Chiefs "name length" team

I have assembled below five Chiefs all-time teams. The first consists exclusively of players whose last names were less than 5 letters long. We then go with a team of last names exactly 5 letters, another with 6 letters, another with 7 letters, and a fifth with 8+ letters. Which do you think would be the strongest team?

Note: For each team, I let them claim up to two players off of "waivers", i.e., if they could improve their team by claiming a player who didn't make one of the other teams, they could do so.

You may assume that your favorite Chiefs coaching staff is running each team.

Ready? Here we go.

6 letter and 7 letter teams would whoop the shit out of the rest.

My takes:

4 Letters Team

Strengths: defensive line, offensive tackles
Weaknesses: linebackers, receiving corps, quarterback

This team has a problem in that it's got a good pass-blocking line, but is not strong at QB or WR/TE. The defense is pretty solid overall, with a very good line. Overall, not a contender due to weaknesses, though.

5 Letters Team

Strengths: defensive end, cornerbacks, running backs
Weaknesses: special teams, safeties, inconsistent on o-line and defensive tackles

This team is strong at the skill positions and strong against the pass. A couple of weak areas are more than made up for by the rest of the units. This team would outscore a lot of people and would be hard to play catch up against. Strong contender.

The 6 Letter Team

Strengths: Linebackers, cornerbacks, running backs, special teams
Weaknesses: Offensive line, moderate defensive tackles

This team is not as strong on the offensive line, but there's a lot of skill in the backfield. Taylor and Carson are both deep threats. Defensively, this team would be somewhat stout against the run with Lanier and Phillips, and would be devastating against the pass with a ball-hawking secondary and DT coming off the corner. Strong contender.

The 7 Letter Team

Strengths: Speed at many positions, offensive backfield and quarterback, safeties.
Weaknesses: Defensive line, light front seven on defense

This team has a well-balanced offense that will power forward with a big line and FB Larry Johnson, but also a host of quick, solid receivers and a QB who can get them the ball. Defensively, they're likely to get pushed around by strong running teams, though their safeties will make teams pay for it. Lots of team speed on defense.

The 8+ Team

Strengths: Defensive tackles, RB tandem that will work well together
Weaknesses: O-line is more run blockers than pass blockers, Defense tends to be slower run stuffers

This team has an offense that's balanced with speed and power, and will be intelligently run. The line is primarily maulers, though, so the team can't get behind early. On defense, look for this team to blow up power running teams, but will not be as strong against the pass.

My pick will be the 6 Letter team. That defense is going to be pretty good, and they've got a pretty talented offense as well. My ranks:

1 - 6 Letter Team
2 - 5 Letter Team
3 - 7 Letter Team
4 - 8 Letter Team
5 - 4 Letter Team

The 6 Letter Team would probably be the best team overall with Dawson as the field general. The 4 Letter Team cannot be seriously considered because they have Bono as QB.

ha, yeah - holy crap rainman, you do have too much time on your hands, right????

alanm, how is old Fort Collins? I used to be a Bruin, middle school. I remember the town with Fondness, but only knew it as a teenager....

BTW, I'm voting for the seven letter team, seems pretty well rounded.

I like the eight letter team, just because it would be cool to see Buck and Dan @ DT.
