Around the league Alan Branch might have hurt his draft status. Branch reportedly was out of shape and wasn't impressive at his recent pro day at Michigan. Initially, Branch was expected to be a top-six pick, but scouts are starting to wonder if the defensive lineman is soft and not prepared for the rigors of the NFL. There were thoughts Denver could be eyeing him because of a big need on the defensive front, but the only way the Broncos will move way up from the No. 21 pick is for a sure thing. Branch might not be that type of player....The Bills are shopping linebacker Takeo Spikes because of his large price tag. There might be some suitors, but all Buffalo would likely get in return would be a second-day draft choice. ... Don't be surprised if big Atlanta defensive tackle Grady Jackson is cut loose before training camp in a salary cap move. If he is, Denver could be a nice landing spot for him.

There is talk the Lions will shop defensive lineman Shaun Rogers, and the Broncos would be a logical spot for him. ... There was talk in league circles that Joey Porter will be difficult for any coach other than Bill Cowher to handle. The former Colorado State star and the former Steelers coach had a special bond. Cowher kept Porter in check. It will be interesting to see how new Miami Dolphins coach Cam Cameron deals with the newly signed Porter, especially in the aftermath of Porter's casino brawl with Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Levi Jones in Las Vegas on March 18.

Good god, that would suck, seeing him in a Broncos uni for the forseeable future.

I still don't think he lasts much past 10, if he even makes it that far.

I still don't see him as being a great NFL guy.....the next Ryan Sims.

Maybe. I doubt it. Probably about as much chance of that as there is of Jarrett being the next Mike Williams.

Not a chance. He'll be gone within 11 picks.

Next Ryan Sims? Hahahah. Watch football, Mecca.

He'll be gone by pick 10.

We'll see Branch has all sorts of red flags, it's just a bad DT year pushing all of them up.

I'd be fine with seeing his exhausted ass in the second quarter, huffing and puffing after Waters pancakes him yet again.

Better not say that. chagrin will get on your back and insult your intelligence based on where you live.

Do you watch college football?

The amount of BS that comes about draft prospects AFTER the football has been played is ridiculous.

The dude is a dominant football player and he dominates in every quarter.

'Twas a joke.

I'd take Branch at 23, but doesn't matter won't happen who cares.

I still don't see him as being a great NFL guy.....the next Ryan Sims.

He's the ANTI Ryan Sims at this point.

Ryan Sims burst onto the scene his senior year and basically made the season with his game against FSU. Then he dominated at the offseason workouts and rocketed into the top 10. After getting a huge contract, he became super lazy.

Alan Branch has played at a decent level for most of 3 years and dominated just about every team he faced his senior season. Then he showed up lazy and unmotivated for the offseason workouts and has dropped out of the top 10.

I'm not saying that he's gonna just magically become motivated once he's drafted, but up to this point, his career doesn't parallel Ryan Sims' in any way, shape, or form.

I don't know.

There's just something about an unmotivated D-linemen that scares me.

Now is that true or just a bad rap? I don't know. I hope Carl and company are able to find out if they're considering the guy.

But just look at our two best D-linemen. Allen & Hali. What do they have in common? Unbelievable motors.

IMO defense is just like that in almost any sport. It's hard work & takes a lot of energy. So I think having a high motor guy comes 1st and foremost

We're talking about defensive TACKLES.

You'll be hard pressed to find one that doesn't have motivation issues.

It's just the nature of the position.

It's tough to judge big OL and DL, because just by their sheer size they can end up dominating in college.

Branch in the 1st and and M. Thomas in the 2nd - KC would solve their DL woes for the next 5 years. (Provided Carl pays Allen).

Ya know, as much as we need help in many areas, if something like this went down, I'd be mighty impressed with such a bold move!!

I still think somebody much higher than 23 in the 1st round is gonna take this guy on an impressive collegiate career at a top notch program over the combine/pro-day effort issues. But just to go ahead and say it, if he's there at 23, don't even answer the phone, turn in the card and take him!

Mecca, with this thinking I have to challenge your logic. If Branch is Sims based upon whatever it is you are using, you have to get your USC bias out of the way and look at Jarret, he's lazy, has character and motivation issues and is about as good as Williams was coming out of USC. So what exactly is your problem with him?

Again, thank you for being the voice of logic and reason.

I read that the reason Branch is slipping and being called out-of-shape is because Krumrie did his one-on-one drills with Branch at his pro-day and worked him over pretty good, and Branch was totally dragging ass by the time these drills were over.

From what I have read, for the cover 2 defense to be operating at it's best, the front four have to be a dominate unit. I could really see this happening on draft day.

My hope is for both line units to be upgraded this year in the draft. With a good D line, and a good O line again this team would be pretty good.

Krumrie's GLADITORIAL SLAP FIGHTS slapped him down the draft.

The guy makes me think of Ryan Sims but if he falls to 23 I don't see the Chiefs passing on him since DT is a huge need.
