ESPN's recent prospect rankings named Blaine Gabbert as their #1 QB and #9 overall player in the class of 2008. Gabbert is from St. Louis and is Mizzou's #1 recruiting target.

Scouts Grade: 88
Considering: 1-Missouri , 2-Nebraska , 3-Iowa , 4-Oklahoma , 5-Alabama

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Evaluation: Gabbert is one of the best quarterbacks we have seen in the last three classes combined. He is the ideal blend of being a pocket passer and athlete woven all into one package, very much in the same mold as former Michigan State QB Drew Stanton. He has outstanding size, mobility and arm strength for a player at this stage and all the measurables you look for are present. Gabbert is a pocket passer with impressive overall touch, timing and accuracy. He gets good RPMs on the deep-out route and is able to fit the ball into some tight spots. He has a very smooth and relaxed throwing motion. Keeps the ball high while dropping and shows a compact, quick delivery. Mechanics are consistent, and he is a very confident passer -- stands tall, steps into his throws and is very balanced. Possesses a powerful downfield arm and demonstrates an array of different throws. He has a knack for zinging the skinny post, shows the touch to lay the ball in between linebackers and safeties and does an excellent job leading receievers on slants, crossing routes and digs. Also does a good job of recognizing coverages and leading his WRs to soft spots in zone. Sells pump-fakes and play-action fakes well -- is a good ball handler. What is so surprising about Gabbert when you look at him on the hoof is his impressive mobility and running skills. He is mobile and a threat to run. Is a dual-threat guy who can be very dangerous when he breaks contain. Shows some elusiveness as a runner. Also is a tough, competitive runner who knows where the first-down marker is when he takes off to run. Lacks explosiveness and initial burst but has deceptive speed. Coaches will feel he has very few, if any physical weaknesses. He is a unique prospect given his size and physical tools at this stage.

Now, when in the hell did KU start a football program? I must have missed that. :hmmm:

Has he commited? Last heard he was going to visit Alabama and liked Nebraska as well.

I don't like our chances in a Saban vs Pinkel recruiting battle.

He's bound for better than Missouri.

Actually he appears to be a strong Mizzou lean at this point, and he grew up rooting for the Tigers.

Obviously anything can happen at this point, especially in recruiting, but i'd say there's a good chance he ends up in black and gold.

They might land him. I was really surprised when they got Chase Daniel -- he was a stud in HS. That showed they can land big-name QB recruits.

I've seen this kid play in person, and he is as advertised.

I'd be very surprised if he doesn't sign a LOI with Alabama.

The schedule for 2007 is brutal for them.

Webster Groves at Home

Parkway North, Parkway Central and Eureka on the road.

Any of those four games would be good games to see.

Gabbert is the real deal. He's big, strong, and fast (he ran around a 4.5 40, IIRC). He's a Mizzou fan, but there is no guarantee he'll land at MU. He does seem to like, however, Mizzou's offense. If we landed him, we'd have three Elite 11 QBs on the roster. That's unreal.

IIRC, Daniel slipped under the radar and wasn't recruited by anyone of consequence until late. That won't be the case this time.

That's because he got caught making out with his sister, and schools questioned his moral integrity.

Nebraska is after Gabbert, but I've heard a rumor suggesting he's a lock for MU. I don't know if I believe that rumor because Gabbert would've committed to MU by now if the rumor were true.

What I know about Gabbert does suggest he's at least a Mizzou lean at this point...

One of the reasons Andrew Jones from Smithville committed early was that he felt confident Gabbert also would be coming to Columbia to throw him the ball.

Gabbert is a Mizzou fan from a Mizzou family and has come to several basketball games dressed in Mizzou garb.

Also, in every interview I've seen, he's gushed about the offense. Specifically, how he loves the spread and having the ball in his hands every play. Also, when asked to list his favorites, Gabbert says "in no specific order, " but Mizzou has been the first school listed every time. (Not that that really means anything).

It worries me to see dirty Saban getting involved, but not too much. I think he ends up a Tiger. Time will tell...

Say what you will about Pinkel, but he definitely puts his QBs in position to post incredible numbers and garner national acclaim.

Agree, and that even goes back to his Washington days where Chris Chandler, Mark Brunell, Billy Joe Hobert, and Hugh Millen thrived in his system before going pro. He has a track record with QBs that is hard to top.

I've read that Gabbert will be ranked by Rivals.com as a top three QB nationally and he will be a five-star. He's attended the spring games at Missouri and Nebraska, and it's down to those two schools. He keeps saying Nebraska and Mizzou are even, but I keep reading speculation that he's been a Mizzou lean all along.

Arthur Brown has supposedly favored Oklahoma all along, but watch out for USC.

Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Kansas State, Alabama, North Carolina, LSU, USC and Miami.

He must have had second thoughts about the Corn after seeing them get manhandled on national television. Can't blame him, who would want to go to a school with Kevin Cosgrove as the DC?

I can't understand why an elite QB wouldn't want to play for Mizzou....he'd be throwing to Jeremy Maclin & Danario Alexander in a couple of years...he'd avg about 50 passes a game with 300+ yards passing & generally have 3-5 td passes per game.
