Today we'll see Grienke's stuff.

Scouting Report:
Red Sox: After months of anticipation, Matsuzaka finally makes his official debut in a Red Sox uniform. At least during Spring Training, he appeared ready to live up to his lofty billing. Matsuzaka was a legend in Japan during his eight-year career with the Seibu Lions. He went 108-60 with a 2.95 ERA while producing 1,355 strikeouts. Matsuzaka also led Japan to victory in the Inaugural World Baseball Classic. En route to the MVP award, Matsuzaka went 3-0 with a 1.38 ERA.

Royals: Greinke, a 2002 first-round pick, spent most of last season with Double-A Wichita, where he went 8-3 with a 4.34 ERA in 18 games. He was a September callup after the Texas League playoffs and made three relief appearances. Greinke had a spectacular Spring Training to earn a rotation slot.

I don't blame us for trying to run. The Royals are just trying to get something going. The umps are trying to beat us too. That works if it's a hit-and-run with a favorable count. Running when you're in the middle of a rally with no outs and a full count is just bad situational baseball. Nothing kills momentum faster than a strike 'em out/throw 'em out DP.

Anything would've worked better than that. Let Teahen sacrifice him over, set up the tying run at second base with 1 out.

With the nature of fans, I'm sure Gordon will get some heat, probably pretty soon, I hope he can hold up to it. I think he will, but I said even last year before they make this move, allowing Gordon to play third this year is probably going to hurt our defense short-term. Rookie third basemen always struggle. Teahen was just starting to get "it" over at third before we shut him down last year. So far nothing we've seen has surprised me... he's a rookie playing his 2nd year of pro ball. If he keeps this up the same people who called Teahen a bust will say the same thing about Gordon.

Teahen was just starting to get "it" over at third before we shut him down last year. So far nothing we've seen has surprised me... he's a rookie playing his 2nd year of pro ball. If he keeps this up the same people who called Teahen a bust will say the same thing about Gordon.
Exactly - there's going to be growing pains with ANY rookie, regardless of skill and/or potential, and we need to be patient because Gordon has all the intangibles required to be a truly great player.

Instant gratification = no place in Major League Baseball.

I don't expect him to be the second coming of Brooks Robinson but that was a routine grounder. Hopefully he'll work things out.

No shit. Acting like a routine error matters -- for a rookie -- on the third game of the season -- for a shitty team with no expectations like the Royals -- is really dumb.

Yeah I know, he struggled in spring training too. I think he's going to look pretty ugly over there sometimes.

Wow, how quickly the expectations from Monday died in just 3 days....

I guess that the fact that the royals end up 1-2 after this series is pretty good, considering they faced some incredible Pitchers...

I don't think so really. For the 2nd straight year we're starting off against what looks like the best team in the AL. But I think Beckett's going to have a good year and they basically have three #1 pitchers, most teams don't have one. Our starting pitching has matched up even better than I expected though, we've really matched up with them...and that's a really good sign. This early part of the schedule is brutal, Boston, Detroit at home then a long road trip. I just want to see us survive, and not have a couple 10 game losing streaks like previous years, then the schedule will lighten a bit to give a chance to finish strong like last year. No need to be overdramatic.

I expect it to get brutal this season but hopefully sometime down the line a competitive team will emerge. Remember Boston is expected to compete for the pennant this year. Todays game should give Greinke a shot of confidence.

On im not....i just remember telling people after Mondays win to NOT get overly excited. This is still a team that will probably win around 75-80 games......but for us, that would be a small win. Baby Steps.....

Looks like it's time to put the Greinke avatar back up. I predict, 11 wins this year for Zackarius.

You just gotta understand that the Royals have been so horrible for so long that we're gonna freak out when we see any sign that this can be a good team.

Well on the bright side, we have more wins than the Cardinals.
