Rob Hunt #53 starting at RG for Berlin Thunder. He is also the back up center.

Former Chiefs OT Jeremy Parquett, RB Quentin Griffin, and TE Mike Pinkard all start for the Hamburg Sea Devils.

Thanks, looked for and found. It actually has a lot of meaning.

Used to protect from evil and is a powerful symbol of protection, and is also considered to confer wisdom, health and prosperity.

Don't mean to offend anyones religious believes. I like ancient history and that seemed to be a good avi.

04-14-2007, 02:08 PM

on the plus - he actually pulled fairly well for a big man.

J.T. O’Sullivan played pretty well for 3 years at Cal-Davis, throwing for 10,475 yards. He was a 6th round draft pick for the New Orleans Saints in 2002 and the third-string QB for that year. He played in NFL Europe in 2004 and led his team to the World Bowl. That may have been when you read or heard about him. Several teams were supposed to be interested in acquiring him. In 2004 he was traded to the Packers in the CB Mike McKenzie deal. He has since been on several teams, Vikings 2005 (cut), Panthers 2006 as 3rd-string, and now the Bears in Europe again.

Derrick Ross 30 carries, 119 yards for a 4.0 average. His longest run was for 23 yards. He had 1 touchdown. He also had 3 catches for 25 yards. A pretty good opening game for him.

Don't like the number of carries, but if he can continue to show like this, it certainly makes the Chiefs running game that much stronger.

Larry Johnson, Michael Bennett, ?Priest Holmes?, and this kid as a backup.

Dee Brown isn't on the team anymore, is he? I'm pretty sure he's a free agent now. Unless he was re-signed and I wasn't paying attention.

Last time I checked, Dee Brown is unsigned but remains on the roster until another team signs him or the seasonal roster limits come into play.

I finally had a chance to really watch the game and these are some of my thoughts on Derrick Ross.

Positives – Very strong runner. He does not go down easily. Sometimes that can be a negative. One of his fumbles was because he would not go down and he got the ball stripped from him. He is not a bad receiver. He swings out in the flats, looks the ball in and runs pretty well after the catch. He actually had 2 TDs but the second one was called back. The left tackle was called for holding but Derrick Ross had already beaten the defensive end around the corner and it probably would have been a 12 yard TD even without the hold. He had 85 yards in the first half on 11 carries. His longest run was for 23 yards but he also had runs of 16, 11, and 15 yards. He really did not have good blocking and many times he was met in the backfield and had multiple people hitting him. Many of his carries were for 1, 2 and 3 yards. The reason he had so many carries was because Antwaun Carter, the Cologne second back, went out of the game injured. Cologne had the lead so they kept running the ball with Ross carrying. To Derrick’s credit, he picked up some needed yards and first downs when Hamburg was stacking the line and playing the run.

Negatives – Derrick had some pretty big negatives. He fumbled the ball 3 times during the game. Each of them went out of bounds so they did not cost the team. He does not tuck the ball in when he is in traffic. Many times he is using his arms for balance but that exposes the ball to be swatted out. He also does not like to carry the ball in the proper hand. His left arm seemed to be the weakest for carries. His blocking sucks. He looks lost when he is supposed to be blocking. He is 5’10” 225 lbs and he looks to be strong but he falls in the way of rushing defenders. There were a couple of times when he could have really hit the rushing linebacker or defensive end and he just kind of gets in the way. Last item, he also looks to where he is supposed to run prior to his runs. If defenses notice this, he will be dead.

Some additional info on Derrick Ross taken from a story on NFL.com -

In Hamburg, Derrick Ross (Chiefs) justified the faith coach David Duggan had showed in him all through training camp, leading the Centurions to a 24-18 victory against the Sea Devils and spoiling Vince Martino's debut as a head coach.

Although Antwaun Carter was the star of preseason, Duggan kept telling people Ross was probably the best runner in the league. And on April 14, although Carter was listed first on the depth chart, it was Ross who lugged the leather 30 times for 119 yards, getting his biggest gains at key moments. When Hamburg kicker Shane Andrus (Colts) missed a 51-yard field-goal attempt, Ross took the ball 23 yards on the next play. Backup QB Erik Meyer then hit Burt Toler for 26 more, and then Meyer took a keeper in from 6 yards out for the Centurions' first score.

And it was Ross' 16-yard scamper for a score -- on the first play after Jerron Wishom (Vikings) returned one of two Rod Rutherford interceptions from midfield 34 yards -- that gave Cologne a 14-6 halftime lead they made stand up the rest of the way.
