View Full Version : Yahoo hijacked my browser.

I'm a slow kid. I rarely bookmark sites I visit. I usually just type the site name, ctrl/enter and go where I need to go. I've been doing this to go to weather.com for years and years.

A couple of weeks ago doing so started taking me to weather.yahoo.com. I assumed yahoo had acquired weather.com for eleventy billion dollars. Not so. They just hijacked my browser.

I am now uninstalling everything yahoo related except for maybe IM.

To me that's just as bad as spyware or malware. Jerks.

Use Firefox, and maybe that kind of stuff won't happen again.

Speaking of weird and wild browser functions, can anyone get Hannibal Rising to load at http://tv-links.co.uk/index.do/4 ?

I've used Firefox for years and just recently switched back to IE. IE actually performs better on my machine for some reason.

Same thing happened to me the other night. I thought I was simply upgrading software - the next thing I know Yahoo exploded all over my computer. Changed my homepage and everything - also minimized the toolbar I needed to access to change it back. F#ckers. 4321

Were you using the Yahoo browser or something? I have been using Yahoo services for years but NOT their browser. I have never had anything loaded from them at all.

My wife uses the IM crap. We have separate computers, but mine's by the TV and she occasionally uses it when I'm not home. I don't like it, but there's not much I can do about it.

Thanks, Mr. Spchief. The problems is that I can't get Hannibal Rising to load at http://tv-links.co.uk/index.do/4 ... it's under the "h"s.

It was working earlier today and I was going to watch it while I'm working, but it won't load now. I was wondering if someone else could get it to load so I can tell if it's a problem with my computer or connection. It's a safe link.

Will it load for anyone else? I want to see some people get killed and eaten.

The thing quit on me just as Rose McGowan is quitting the club.

Guess I have to part with $10 to see the remaining 3 hours in the theater.

BOO!

PS: I'm sorry, but there will be no neg-repping of Mr. Phobia, nastiness or not.

Smart thing to do on my part, considering he's cooking food I'll be consuming in the near future.

The last install of yahoo IM tried to install so many things on my system that I just switched to using meebo.com to connect to Yahoo and MSN for IM'ing. I can't get files sent to me, but eh, that doesn't happen much anyway. It was very disappointing that Yahoo felt that they needed to go that route.

Yahoo is a mult-billion dollar company so I guess I won't question their business practices, but I really didn't appreciate it.

i've gotten crap like that off all 3 of our pc's from time to time...

you can google for information, but i find posting the question on here to be much more helpful...

i've always gotten help from the experts who post here...

just recently, they helped me get all 3 of my pc's running again (each had their own little problem)...

getting rid of things that reinstall themselves is a little complicated, but the guys here talked me through that one too...

I have yet to go back and see if I selected automatic install by mistake, but I really should look and see if I did before exploding to badly. But there is NO excuse for having weather.com take you to a yahoo site, I'm sure the people at weather.com would be very interested to hear that info, 'cause I'm guessing that it borders the wrong side of illegal.
