Moving to Lee's Summit, MO in a couple of weeks. I'd like to find a townhome w/3 bedrooms 2+ bathrooms. Anyone familiar with the area? I've found two potential places on Rent.com
No more than $1000/month for rent.

Damn....if you wanted to move to California I would have to laugh at you. I pay $950 a month for a one bedroom one bathroom apartment.

Yuo must be selling alot of dope to be able to afford that kind of rent, LOL!

Here in Orlando, rent is about the same as in California, I think Lee's Summit is a bit more affordable.

Good luck

I'm familiar with the area but not necessarily apartments. Do you have any questions that do not pertain to apartments?

This site isn't the greatest, but you can use it to get an idea as to what is available. You can tweak the search...

Schools are incredible. I kinda like The Peanut in downtown LS. I'm not sure about a CompUSA but there's more than enough retail in the area.

bar scene is pretty weak and has a no smoking ordinence. There are a few sport bars (Patty O'Quigley's) but unless you consider drinking at your local Applebee's, 54th Street Grill then there isn't much. Blue Springs, OP, Midtown/Downtown aren't too far away so that's another nightlife option. Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Grocery stores are all close and accessible. Drive through just about any suburb and you'll have pretty similar shopping areas in LS, with some speciality stores and restaurants. There are a few decent mexican restaurants and all of the chain type places but I haven't found a great BBQ place yet.

As far as condo's go, I'm not real sure. There are some studio type apartments (Amli?) or something like that right off Chipman and 291 which can be had from under your price point. I'd consider buying though, unless you really can't stretch beyond 1000.

good point, forgot about Downtown LS. That's a good place. 3rd Street, Peanut and a few other bars and smaller boutique/privately owned shops down there. Also, it was the location of Oktoberfest for a while.

Only CompUSA I know of is off of 40 and 291. MicroCenter is located off Metcalf in Kansas. Both should be within 20 minutes of LS.

If I were you I'd buy half a duplex. That way you can build some equity.

Houlihans is also very cool, especially now that the weather is nice (patio seating). But I'm not sure I'd consider them part of the "bar scene".

There used to be some affordable town homes back behind Long John Silver on 291, but I haven't lived in L.S. since 99. There's no real bad areas in Lee's Summit. It's quickly become the Missouri version of Overland Park.

I just bought half a duplex. 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths. Mortgage +HOA fees are slightly more than 1100. With interest rates as low as they are, it makes sense to buy.

Yeah, it's awesome. You can go to the bar and then somewhere else without smelling like you rolled around in an ashtray. I'll bet property values have tripled due to it.

$1000 a month sounds about right for the KC market. My friends rented a brand new 2 bed room apartment in the Northland for about a 1k a month.

A bar just isn't a bar without a thick film of smoke :)

And my property value hasn't. That was over as soon as I wanted to put my place on the market :(

Buy the whole duplex and make money on the other side. Or even better, build one. Hire Phobia.

I'm not a tobacco snob at all but the smoking ban in LS is the best thing ever. I can actually get my wife to go into a bar with me again.

My god, rent is that high in KC these days? When I lived there in 91-93 we had a new two bedroom appartment at Quail Cove in NKC for $550, nice place, great schools. Then live in Shawnee Mission (435 & Shawnee Mission Pky) another nice place for $650.

There were some townhomes off of Knollbrook St, behind a Walgreens, off of Langsford and Todd George that I lived and they were great! There was a Sonic right accross the street! Highly recommend them. Nice 3 bdrms, great schools, great town!

I'm looking for a place in Overland Park right now. I've actually signed up at roommates.com for a place. I've seen alot of nice nice houses for 400 bucks everything included. Sure you have to share, but alot of them are nice. I have two friends that want to live with them up here North of the River, but they are horrendus slobs, and I'd rather not room with friends. Besides it's easier to meet more people that way. I don't know where you guys are looking though. You must be incridibly classy. One of my buddies has a place off of I-35 and 75th and it's a 3 bedroom 2 bath he pays 275 everything included and it's really not bad. I'm tryin' to find a place for 300 if I can everything included. Live cheap, party hard.
