My wife's mother passed away this afternoon after a long battle with COPD, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. My wife and son as well as her brother are having a rough time adjusting. Any and all thoughts and prayers toward my family and her extended family would be greatly appreciated.

Coming from a woman's point of view.......I moved my Mom's table and chairs in with the China cabinet this weekend. So odd, cleaning and putting things in it. April 19th was 3 months since Mom has been gone. One day, one hour it hits me "Mom is really gone" Gulp such an empty feeling I can't put into words. I wish I could. Guess what I am trying to tell you, be patient with her. Moods will swing and from my understanding actually the 2nd year is the hardest. I can't imagine that, but that was told to me by a couple friends that lost a Mom and a Dad.

I can symphathize with you Guru, my grandma died of COPD (my wifes mother), and it was at a pretty young age. It is really ruff on the family and I will pray for you and your family. Man thats tuff. You'll get through, tomorrow is a new day and hopefully a lot better.

I know one of these days it will finally take him. I can't imagine what your family is going through right now. You and your family will be in our prayers.

Roy, I sent you a PM. My dad takes breathing treatments several times a day and night. It is definitely not the kind of quality of life that I would want to go through. That is a big part of why I quit smoking when I was 21.

I think it's positively correct. I lost my mom the day before Valentine's day in 1999. The first year things didn't seem real, but the next year when holidays started rolling around and her birthday, I was miserable. 2000 was a rock bottom year for me. While the emptiness never really goes away, it's pretty hollow for a long time.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. We are all doing well. My wife is working through it all and is getting ready for the second stage of things with the dividing of property with her brother. That will go smooth.

Our oldest son is still working through things. Getting to sleep at night has been rough for him as bedtime is when he thinks about grandma the most. He is a trooper though.

Our two younger kids are pretty oblivious to what has happened. Don't know how we could have handled all three being devastated at the same time. God never gives one more than they can handle though. I believe this whole heartedly.
