Chiefs Trade DT Ryan Sims to Tampa Bay
May 01, 2007, 1:45:53 PM

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Tuesday that the club traded DT Ryan Sims to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for an undisclosed future draft pick.

Sims (6-4, 315) played in 59 games (36 starts) in five seasons with Kansas City. He recorded 149 tackles (79 solo), 5.0 sacks (-22.0 yards), 36 QB pressures, an interception, one pass defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He also played in two postseason contests (one start). The Spartanburg, South Carolina native started all 16 games in 2003, totaling a career-high 83 tackles (41 solo), 3.0 sacks (-13.0 yards), seven QB pressures, a forced fumble, one fumble recovery and an interception. He originally entered the NFL as the Chiefs first-round draft choice in 2002.

Sims saw action in 43 games (33 starts) as a three-year starter at North Carolina. He finished his collegiate career with 167 tackles (83 solo), 14.0 sacks (-87.0 yards), 28.0 tackles for loss, 11 passes defensed, 40 QB pressures and a fumble recovery. He was a first-team all-state, all-region and all-area selection as a senior at Paul M. Dorman High School in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Keep in mind this is after a pretty damning article about our lack of good defensive line coaching... Perhaps the Tampa bras is thinking that they can start over with him and they're essentially getting a 5th overall pick who, if he doesn't work out, they've wasted a 7th rounder, and if he does work out, they'll be getting a potentially awesome player for a 4th rounder. (Assuming it's a conditional pick).

If he goes to Tampa and is "coached" into a ProBowler or reaches his potential, it's time to clean house with our defensive line coaches.

But it's a happy day over here.

Great pickup. I liked him coming out of college, though his draft stock rose out of control and he ended up being a major reach at 6. He has talent, is still only 27 years old, and as said a change of scenery might just be what the doctor ordered for someone who had to deal with unrealistic expectations. He will make the team, and at 6'4" 315 lbs is the big DT we need for running downs.

I think he was referring to Sims' best year of 2003 when he recorded 83 (41 solo) tackles and 3 sacks.

His career numbers are 149 (79 solo) tackles and 5 sacks. That equates to 30 (16 solo) and 1 sack per year. Which still sucks major balls.

Carl must have used the big can of turd polish on this one.

"Uh..no he had injury problems....He has a huge upside....It's really related to kind of a thyroid thing....Well, he does have a work ethic....He was a first round draft pick, how can you go wrong?.....He just needs a fresh start.....He'll do better in the weather in Tampa....Draft picks huh? I suppose I could give up a 5th and....Oh, what picks do I want?....errr....well yeah, yeah, we want picks for him."

You know, I may be insane, but I've had visions over the past year or so [maybe less] of KC giving Gallery a boost with a similar change of scenery. Most likely it's just post-Roaf psychosis.

Next year, CP will be forced to make a decision on who to take when that draft pick comes due.. :doh!:

I like this one: "His career stats are poor. Maybe he needs a change of coaches? Probably won't make the team, only done to placate the board posters calling for DT's."

Nice work Herm.

Preach it.

People hate on Herm but the level of garbage he's getting rid of and the talent he's bringing in is insane.

Good riddance to Vermeil's trash.

Lots of people said he did just fine picking Sims, too...

I'd say he has about the same amount of busts as break-through players...

For the majority of his picks and free agent signings over the last 2 years (i.e., Pollard, Page, Croyle, Tyler, K. Smith, Boone, etc.), we can only wait and see how they perform as regular starters.

Without going through the entire thread, i have to say that all of this piling on is unwarranted...???...ummm...check that, i was thinking of Hicks...

...by ALL means, lets pile on this TITANIC of busts...'ol Chucky is REALLY gonna get red faced & upset now, he might just go after Cryan with a pair of scissors...

It better be a first day pick!!!

:) :)

I would imagine that the "Undisclosed" means that if he stinks as bad there as he did here, we won't get anything for him.

Do they at least absorb the cap hit for him now or do we still have to absorb some of the signing bonus?

By all rights we should be the ones giving up the picks. I'll be happy if we get a fourth round beer and pretzel vendor.

That is awesome!

It is something like this:

Person A: "Hey, I found this piece of dog sh!t on the sidewalk."

Person B: "Really? I'd be interested in taking that off your hands."

Person A: "I'm planning on setting it down soon for anyone to take."

Person B: "I'd be willing to pay you in the future to take that piece of dog sh!t off your hands right now."

Person A: "Done."Perfect.

Originally, yes, it was 2 cheerleaders and a hot dog vendor. But then, Gruden got smart and replaced the vendor with a parking lot attendant. He realized, of course, that he needed lots of qualified people on round-the-clock shifts to keep Sims well-fed.

From this site: "The only thing I'm concerned with is what round pick we gave up for him...here's to hoping it's a third and no more"

If we got a third rounder out of Sims the date of this trade might become a state holiday.

A few of those fans act like it's the Chiefs fault he sucked........."Kc sucks with D players"

There may be some merit to that argument.

By the time that Herman ****ing Edwards came along, it was to late for Sims in KC.

An entirely new home may be what he needs.

If the Bucs gave up cheerleaders then they gave up way too much.

Lord knows, the cheerleaders in KC match the quality of Sims production.
