What's the best Mexican Beer?

I'm making my way through a six-pack of San Miguel. Pretty good stuff.

Happy CincoDe Mayo!

Negra Modelo. No doubt about it. Corona is probably the worst.

I like both Dos Equis Amber and Negra Modelo. Great beers. Both are Vienna lagers which is a German style beer.

XX's is my favorite beer..I was in Cancun in '95 and we were buying Coronas by the bucket with ice on the beach..I must have drank about 15 of them and I didn't even get a buzz cooking..I was pissing like a race horse, which sucked..but not drunk..so I switched to XX's,much stronger, and it tastes good too.

FYI Tiny, you should try ''Presidente''..it's a Dominican beer..it's better than any of these Mexican beers..and the bottles are frosted and covered in ice when they are served in the Dominican Republic,if you ever think of going there.

I've only had 4 on the list, i suppose i can do just fine with a Corona & a fat slice of lime...that spells summertime for me.

I do know that Tecate SUX & is the Old Milwaukee of Mexican beers.

Nobody drinks the water down there unless it's been boiled and triple filtered.

When I was in the Dominican they had a skull and crossbones on the mirror in the bathroom of our room saying don't drink the water..I brushed my teeth with bottled water.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Tecate, it's a leftover from my 1985 Cancun vacation. It was served almost everywhere I went, from the beach to the inland villages. On the beach they dipped the can in salt and placed half a lime on top, ice cold. Sure, it's not the best beer in the world, but I'll never grow tired of that memory. One of my first few grown-up vacations and Tecate played a prominent role.

Far be it from me to piss on your best memories, glad ya loved it, but Tecate is Spanish for..."ewww, you dont have any more money???"

The best brew is the one that gets ya laid...

Mexicans in Mexico do not drink it.

Id have to say that Negra modelo would and bohemia are a couple of the best beers i have ever tried. I actually have a collection going, i try different beers and i keep a bottle of each. I love beer man, it tastests so damn good. Well, except for anything light(miller, bud, etxc) which is all really shitty piss water. Im up to 65 beers so far, hoping to get to around 200 within the next couple years.

Carona is a natural out based on dog$#it taste alone. It's terrible.

Without a doubt, Sol. And I ALWAYS forget about that beer because it's never advertised. It's the smoothest and doesn't require a lime, unlike the other bitter Mexican beers.

I don't know where each beer technically falls into the beer hierarchy either but if you put Dos Equis Amber, Negra Modelo, and Bohemia in front of me in pint glasses I would drink them.

Also, I wouldn't be able to tell you which was which.

Sometimes beers are intentionally miscategorized. For instance, New Belgium makes a brew called 1554. They call it a black beer, which it is but it's also a malt brew. They don't call it a malt because Oklahoma has some crazy laws about transporting malt beer in the state and they add some silly tax to it.

It may be that many Mexicans don't drink it, but they drink it. I did about 3 weeks at the Corona brewery in Oaxaca, MX. There were loaders putting cases by the forklift full in the refrigerated boxcars. When the train was pulled out there were about 50 empty cases under the platform. All neatly full of empty bottles. It seems like if they damage a case it is pulled out and disposed of, the plant manager figured they could dispose of it during siesta!
