Who Do Chiefs Think They Are, The Raiders?

Trent Green did not participate in this weekend's mini-camp, showing a shallow vindictiveness that is typically reserved for one of their division mates, not the Chiefs. The outside perception of the Chiefs has long been that of a classy organization. Instead this game of chicken with Green has painted the Chiefs as spiteful, penny-pinching organization no better than the Raiders when it comes to castigating players still under contract.
Sad thing, too. Especially when you consider that Trent Green has done nothing other than be a model player and teammate. Green played in 16 games per season and had three consecutive seasons of more than 4,000 passing yards until a cheap-shot by the Bengals cut his 2006 season short. The Chiefs respond to this kind of loyalty by putting him in football purgatory.
The Chiefs really need to put an end to this matter. If they really believe that Green is worthy of a second round pick, then he should be starting this season. But if he is this insignificant speck who isn't more valuable than a Huard brother, then the team should feel fortunate to get anything in return for him. But what the team can't get back is that classy image that it has tarnished this off-season.
