They say it could possibly be Japanese Kongi (which uses many of the Chinese characters), but that it's meaning would remain unchanged.

Or you could look at post #7. It was translated by a guy who was born and grew up in China and verified by a guy that was born and grew up in Taiwan.

It pronounces "Hans" without the s sound as in Hans Christopher Anderson. It is the name of one of the seven kingdoms of the Warring States(600 BC to 200 BC). Being small and in the middle, the kingdom was the first one to go. But its soldiers were known to kick ass in battlefield.

It became a family name ever since, like wong, mao, lee, etc.

When the Korea was divided into two parts, the South Korea used "Han" as their country name. "Han nation" means South Korea in Chinese.
