The first African American to win the Heisman and possibly the greatest NFL running back that never ran a play.

A film about his life titled "The Express" is currently in production.

Yep. The Cleveland Browns' backs would have been Jim Brown and Ernie Davis. That kind of a combination would never have been matched. Ever.

From the article: She left the house to be alone. "I remember I went outside and sat under a tree. At that time, even with the faith that I had in God, it seemed unfair. It seemed like he had done all the right things. He had led a good life. He had overcome obstacles. He had excelled. He would be just a great role model. Not only for black youths, but for everybody. This was a truly good person. If he didn't ask the question--'Why me?'--I think I did. You know, "Why him? Why Ernie?'''

No doubt. Why Ernie? I was four years old when he died, but I remember hearing and reading speculation about what might have been for years after.
