View Full Version : I need to hire a couple of guys.

I've gone through the kids the newspaper ads attract. So I'm thinking of hiring recently retired guys who want extra income but not the responsibility of a regular job. Just a job or two per week. More if they want it. Where can I find guys like this?

Business has been pretty fun. Got a few bucks shooting a soccer game the other day and also have some great exposure from the American Cancer Society by being the official photographer of their Relay For Life Event. I look forward for the move to KC though.

There's a place in Denver called Step 13. It's for recovering alcoholics. The founder was a homeless alcoholic living on the streets at one time. The place won't take any government funding, because they don't like the rules that go along with accepting the funds.

They insist that the guys who live there work, and they make them available for odd jobs on an hourly, daily, weekly, whetever-you-need basis. You set their wage, Step 13 posts the jobs and if one of their guys accepts it, they give you a call to arrange the particulars.

I've used the guys before to walk neighborhoods and hand out flyers.

Here's Step 13's website: http://www.step13.org/why/

Maybe there's a similar place where you are. (Where's T-Town?) Call Step 13 at (303) 295-7837 and ask Bob Coté, the founder, if you can get him on the line. He'd know if there is one near you, I'm sure.

Well, as usual, Skippy ran away when I joined in the festivities. Leaving my questions unanswered, as always.

But I've got some more questions. After all, inquiring minds want to know.

1. How is it that Skippy getting put through college by daddy the doctor is a good thing, but anyone else being dependent on their parents while in their 20s is a bad thing?

2. How is it that wasting an education paid for with someone else's money is a good thing, something to be proud of?

3. How did your degree in psychology figure into your grand life destination as a DTV installer? Do you put up a little cardboard stand like Lucy from the Peanuts cartoon strip and dole out advice between installs? And is that advice free, or do you charge the five cents?

4. This sliming off your ex-wife's social security - is that a national dirtbag welfare thing, or an Oklahoma dirtbag welfare thing?

5. And if you're too claustrophobic to wear a seatbelt, as you mentioned in another thread, how the hell do you crawl through attics while installing cables? Boy, you must be all kinds of f#cked up. Or maybe just full of shit? Please, do tell.

6. And where's that picture of your significant other, Skippy? Boy, I've been waiting on that one forever. You must be quite the prize catch down in Okieland. Is the mother from Million Dollar Baby beating down your door for a piece of that whopping $600 a month you're bringing in now? Go get her, loverboy.

That's all I've got at the moment. I'm off to bed.
