At least this dill hole thinks so -

4. Denver Broncos — Denver picked up yet another weapon for their struggling defensive line by signing defensive tackle and all-around clog in the middle Sam Adams earlier this week. Adams joins a revamped line that has already added three draft picks in Jarvis Moss, Tim Crowder, and Marcus Thomas. In comes Travis Henry as well. A 1,500-yard rusher with Tennessee last season, Henry comes to Denver with a Pro Bowl-caliber 2006 season under his belt. But is that really enough to propel Denver to the fourth spot? A team that didn't even make the playoffs last year? No, not quite. It's the development of Jay Cutler that does the job. I see the second-year man out of Vanderbilt having a breakout season in 2007; the kind that puts him in the league's "superstar" discussion. Cutler really came on toward the end of last season. And with Jake Plummer gone, it's fully his team. Look for a Pro Bowl season, and quite possibly, an MVP year.

There are so many guys that will have spectacular years this season... I can't imagine Cutler being an MVP anytime soon. I think he'll do really well and I do like what they've done this off-season on both sides of the ball.

They have a nice balance of young and old... Cutler should do really well, but MVP? Please.

I'm not sure what's funnier:

a) Cutler as a league MVP

b) Denver rated 4th in Power Rankings

c) Power Rankings in JUNE

d) all of the above

You cut off the best part of his quote - the part where he said Henry was bring a pro-bowl caliber season to Denver.

Henry finished 5th in the AFC in yards, almost 600 yards behind #2 LJ. He finished 9th in the AFC in TD's. Ironically, Mike Bell finished 8th.

I know it's the off-season ... but, let's not get too carried away with what this guy has to say.

I definitely think this team has made some serious upgrades and will be better. Denver should have been in the playoffs last year... but nothing you can do about that now.

I do believe that they have a great shot at winning the division this year, but at the least ... I do see them advancing to the playoffs. After that, who knows.

I found something else interesting about "Pro Bowl RB" Travis Henry...

He's started all 16 games in a season only one time in his 6 year career. He's missed time in 18 games over that 6-year span.

Mile High Mania

Henry had a fine season in 2006... without Travis, Vince isn't the ROY and they don't win 8 games after starting 0-5.

Vince and Titans' fans are going to miss both Henry and Drew Bennett... unless LenDale gets in shape or Chris Henry (rookie) steps up and rocks. They also have a gaggle of young guys behind Givens that need to step up. The potential is there in TN this year... but soooooo many IF's.

Henry missed 3 as a rookie (2001). Then only 1 game in 2003.
Henry didn't saw action in only 10 in 2004, but I can't recall if he was injured or if that's just when they said "screw it, play McGahee".

2005, he missed half the season to injury IIRC.

But, in 6 seasons... he's had 3 where he has topped 1200 yds. Not bad when you see the teams he was on. I'm not saying he's the next LT, but ... in Denver with their history of turning the Garys and Droughns of the world into stars... I like his chances.

http://www.denverbroncos.com/page.php?id=498&contentID=7051

2001: Selected in the second round (58th overall) by Buffalo in the 2001 NFL Draft, Henry played in 13 games
2002: Henry started all 16 games
2003: Henry started all 15 games he played in, missing one with torn rib cartilage
2004: Henry played in 10 games (5 starts) with Buffalo before missing the last five games with a fractured right leg.
2005: Played in 10 games, was inactive for 2 and suspended for 4
2006: Played 14 games, sat two with turf toe issue

So, 4 of those 18 were due to suspension... enjoy.

And he also has a history of small, nagging injuries.

I thought this, taken from the article, was pretty funny as well:

"first-round draft pick Craig "Buster" Davis will join the re-signed Malcolm Floyd to form one of the more promising 1-2 wideout combos in the league."

Especially compared to this:

"On offense, wide receiver Dwayne Bowe adds depth at one of KC's sorest spots"

Ya, Craig Davis, the commonly regarded 2nd round talent is going to be a star and Bowe is just a depth player... OK.

And how many yards did Floyd have last year to warrant this claim of a promising 1-2 combo, you ask?

210.

He came on like the second coming of Joe Montana the last 2 games of 2006.

33 of 55 for 409 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INTS, 2 fumbles and 4 rushes for -2 yards, and a 1-1 record.

I know some of my predominantly orange and blue brethren are ready to put him in elite status, but not me... not for a while. Cutler was inserted into an impossible situation. Replace Plummer when the team is 7-4 (IIRC), coming off a loss at KC ... making your first start the last stretch of the season when you're defense is sliding and you're still alive for the playoffs.

Good lord. The guy played well, he did have typical rookie mistakes, but the offense did improve and they were one game away sadly ... the loss at home to SF from advancing.

Cutler has experience now... and a better cast on offense, so the learning curve will still be there, but he will be ready for the challenge thanks to what he went through to close out 2006.

Again, I understand and expect nothing short of flaming the author of this li'l article and anything related to the Broncos. However, it wasn't just Cutler that lost at home to the 49ers. IIRC, the defense let Gore run wild... I didn't see Cutler out there trying to stop Gore. Who knows, maybe he should have done something on that side.
:p

Through the final 5 games... SEA / @ SD / @ AZ / Cin / SF ... he had the following stat lines. Cutler was pretty steady and didn't make any major mistakes, typical rookie crap. I like his upside.

Denver was 2-3 under Cutler to end the season. They were blown out @ SD thanks to LT going berzerko. They lost by 3 to SEA... by 3 to SF.

Overall, not too bad for the rookie.
