How many official places to sit do you have in your home?

The rules:

You may include the following:

1. Any type of indoor chair or bench, so long as it is permanently ready for sitting and not folded or in a closet or something. This includes dining room table chairs.

2. Couches are counted based on the number of people who could sit on them. For example, a typical couch has three cushions and can seat three people, so count it as three places to sit.

3. Love seats and settees can count as two places if two people could sit on them simultaneously without it seeming weird.

4. Any PERMANENT outdoor chairs, such as adirondack chairs, picnic table benches, etc., may be counted.

5. Built-in benches such as bay window benches are allowable, as long as they have a cushion or are otherwise clearly intended to be used as a sitting area rather than a display area.

You may NOT include the following:

1. Lawn chairs or other chairs that are folded up and put away for part of the year.

2. Seats in vehicles that may be in your house.

3. Nonstandard seating areas such as "those steps that I sit on" or the kitchen countertop

4. Beds, hammocks, or other furniture whose primary use is not for sitting.

5. The backs of ponies or other pack animals, even if you sit on them while riding

6. Toilet seats

Hey, we both thought about toilet seats simultaneously.

And the answer is 'no'. Toilet seats do not count, because they make one's legs fall asleep.

Dining room - 4
Bedroom - 1 (it's a fold out chair, but it's cushioned and it's out year round)

Let's see - six dining room chairs, couch and love seat downstairs, two computer desk chairs and a love seat in the den. Plus the four chairs on the deck, which are cheapy plastic Target specials but don't fold (although they do stack). Plus the old dining chairs and an old desk chair in the basement.

So I guess that's 20. Never really thought about that before.

EDIT - Oops, I didn't read the rules completely. The two love seats and couch which I counted as three should I guess be counted as seven. So I'm at 24.

Dammit Carl! :cuss:

I posted this because I started adding mine up as we buy a new chair, and was quite surprised to find that we could seat 41 people. Something's not quite right about that.

I might start working through them one day at a time. I can do that about nine times in a year, though I'll probably want to concentrate on the outdoor ones during the summer.
