Sure-Oz's thread made me wonder what other states charge(assrape)you for drivers license and plates.

In Ohio, its $25 for an operators, every 4 years. For plates, its $70 for trucks(non-commercial) and I think $50 for passenger vehicles. Annually. Also, there is no personal property tax on motor vehicles here. I recall Mo. had that when I lived there.

Tags are cheap here in Illinois, compared to Kansas. $78 for anything, no personal property tax on cars. Kansas punishes you for owning a newer car, Illinois makes up for it on RealEstate tax. I used to pay about double in Kansas to renew my tags vs. the realestate tax on my home. Here in Illinois I could buy a fairly nice car with my annual realestate taxes.

Yep, I just paid $22 for my drivers license renewal. This Oct I will have to pay over $175 in tags and taxes for my two vehicles that are a 95 Geo Prizm and a 98 Plymouth Voyager.

Not in a hurry to get new vehicles.

I honestly don't know the exact amount. Maybe 300 for tags and personal property taxes on 2 vehicles. Drivers license renewal is every 6yrs in KS IIRC, minimal amount. Whatever it is though, I'm positive it's cheaper than a ticket for driving without a license.

In Nebraska-

Driver's license: $25 last time I got it renewed

Auto license: There is personal property tax, and it depends on the value of the car. My '94 Caravan is around $70, the wife's '98 Camry is around $120. Commercial trucks are a little more, but I'm not sure how much, maybe $20. You also have to pay 7% sales tax the first time you license a vehicle.

Just got my tags transferred to Colorado, and it wasn't any worse than Kansas. Cost me around $95 for a 7-year-old car.

Next April, I will be transferring my license to Oklahoma and putting my truck under my name instead of my dad. I'll also get a Oklahoma license and insurence.
