You know, if the Planet lawyers would get off their collective asses and properly defend our copyright on "Nut Hooks" we'd all be getting royalty checks.

...and we'd sure as hell have a new server.

The link was screwy. I'll try again here:

Heh! Heh! I know you're joking but one owns © as soon as they coin it...but it's who registers it first that wins the rights. You don't need a lawyer for that. Register it...it's easy. Its cheap. Trademark it too. (think that costs more) Unless its considered public domain now...but I've never heard it 'til I came here.

Well, I guess the Planet needs to "officially" copyright "Dammit Carl! :cuss:"

I didn't think Nuthooks was unique to ChiefsPlanet?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that was what the long hooked poles were called that are used to pull bad performers off of a stage. Hence someone thinks they've made a funny post, all they did was piss off the audience and out come the "NUTHOOKS!"

The only example of current usage I can think of though is Showtime at the Apollo

Anyway, they're called Nuthooks because their intended usage is for pulling down branches of trees when picking nuts.

To official register copyright costs about $20, IIRC. However, if you write it down, it's copyrighted. A "poor man's" copyright registration: put your written work in an envelope and mail it to yourself. DO NOT OPEN THE ENVELOPE. The postmark is a federal registration date.

Don't know if you'll agree but $20 is cheap imo.
It's still safer to get it registered because then it's presumptive...that is if it's copyrightable...meaning original and not now in the public domain. T'is the question.

Oh, if you ask me $20 is MORE than worth having the registration with the Library of Congress... but sometimes (I've been there), even $20 is too much and the way to register a copyright is a 34-cent stamp (at the time).

I've registered screenplays the cheap way before.

I won't design a trademark for anyone unless they check the Federal records with a trademark research firm. It happened once that I came up with something that was the same as something, or close enough to one already registered and I never saw it before. Needless to say, it was embarrassing professionally. Now, I don't do that kind of job without a search.

You'd be amazed at how many people think they came up with something first but didn't. Or someone came up with something after someone else, registered it, and then made a legal case against the other to cease using it. In fact I even had a client, do a state and national trademark search for his name. It was all cleared. Years later he called and I had to turn over all my files on it for a deposition because he still go sued. He won though. But it was costly.

Better to be certain then not in this day. JMO.

I also never turn over any rights until I am fully paid.

It's all Chief's avy's. Is that what you're laughing at?

Who here actually was the one who coined it?

A nuthook is a thief.

Bob Dole is disappointed. Bob Dole would expect more of the people here to know their Shakespeare.

I made the remark that we should hang Hoover on nuthooks after one of his many fake free agency signing threads back in 2001 or so.

The Urban Dictionary had this EXACTLY.

1.nuthookshttp://static.urbandictionary.com/thumbsup.gif (http://java script:void(0))12 up, 1 downhttp://static.urbandictionary.com/thumbsdown.gif (http://java script:void(0))hange 'em by their nuts when a thread is misleading
Thread title says: "The Chiefs are going to trade for Darrell Jackson!" But in reality, it was just a made up scenario by an nfl analyst. Other posters say "nuthooks" perhaps with pics.

I'm not real big on Shakespeare, and now I wonder where the hell I got that other idea.
