Someone told me 2-3 years ago when he was trying to make it back and was signed to a minor league deal with the Cubs and went to their Iowa farm club to pitch.
If I recall the story correctly, he pulled his RV up in the parking lot and just lived there while on the team. They said that he'd be talking and drinking with the fans after the games and giving autographs...generally sounded like he was one heck of a nice guy.
