We just got back from visiting my in-laws in colorado, according to the Denver post, the rockie fans are really fuming.
Seems like when the Yankee's came to town for a recent 3 game series, the management raised ticket prices 80% across the board.
both sportswritters and fans alike are ready to have a tar and feathering party for the rockies ownership. I thought that was one hell of a way to treat your fans

That would annoy me as well.

I was sure there was going to be a Stalone reference here.

Isn't that where they got the idea?

Not exactly. I would assume that when the Yankees come to town it is just like when huge rock groups come in; people line up to see big name celebrities (more so than local acts). The same is true in this case. You have a team full of baseball superstars that comes to your city every couple of years. People want to see Jeter, A Rod and Clemens.

It's bullshit on the part of the Rockie's management.

The Brewers do the same thing when the Cardinals and Cubs come to town for weekend series. In 2005, I was able to get great seats about 10 rows behind home plate for around $35 a piece. Last year, prices doubled. They call them "premium" games.

Don't the Royals do the same thing when the Cards come to town?

Yes. It's not 80%, but they do it.

I just looked, and my tickets for the Cards series were $34. They are usually $27. Not highway robbery, but a decent payday if your last name is Glass.

Funny thing about supply and demand.

Cardinals tickets are $5 more, I believe.

The Royals do the same thing for the Cardinals, and the Cardinals do the same thing for the Cubs. It's becoming a typical thing nowadays.

The interesting thing you didn't mention but I am pretty sure I heard on sports talk radio, those high priced games are the only ones that sold out so far this year. Guess not too many people objected to paying a premium price to see the bigger name players.

I think the Royals added 7 bucks this year for the Cards games. They did it last year for the Yankees as well.

As for the Rockies...waaah. They've got $4 seating in the Rockpile (and it's easy to wander to the upper deck for a better seat), and concessions can be brought in from outside (always folks outside selling water, hot dogs, burritos, chips, peanuts, etc. for a buck or two).

I could understand the whining about free enterprise in the People's Republic of Boulder..but Denver? Geez......

Not related but my relative who works in the front office is pissed at Glass.. I guess most of the improvements that are going to happen at the K will not happen.. During the meetings Glass told them if there are any overruns on cost just to cut out things because he does not want the project going over budget.. The deal was any budget overruns and it comes out of Glasses pockets and with prices going up IT IS going to cost more for the improvements...

If I were the owner of a hypothetical small market team, such as the Royals, I would most sincerely double the price of all tickets that are sold apart from a season ticket package.

The absolute worst thing to see in your home yard, is more Yankees fans than home fans. Most of them buy walk up tickets, or, are not season ticket holders. They should pay.
