View Full Version : Tank Johnson cut by Bears

He'll be out the 1st 8 games of the season- maybe less, but you have to think some team would look at picking him up. After looking at the details of his weapons blunder, I'm less weary about him. They guy is a gun collector, and he wasn't supposed to have them while on probation, but they were actually registered and licensed in another state. Not the brightest of moves for sure. His other situation was a deal at a club where he was cleared of the situation, and his getting pulled over in AZ last week for being "slightly intoxicated"- last I heard he wasn't charged and simply released.

Its a red flag, but I don't think this is a Pac-man Jones situation. Someone is going to pick the guy up. It wouldn't surprise me if a team like Denver goes for this guy...

Thoughts, would you be interested in the guy?

No link, sorry

How can you be slightly intoxicated when driving? Isn't it one or the other?

Anyways, I would pass on Tank. I think our DTs look good right now and I want to see what the rooks can do with playing time.

You kidding me? I'd definitely take him.

But I do think there will be a bidding war that will end up paying him more than he's worth.

If there were any way the Chiefs could get him for a reasonable price, he'd be a great pickup for us.

I guess AZ has a odd law, but he was picked up on it and released w/out being cited or charged?

I want no part of Tank Johnson.

He was slightly intoxicated and he got his girlfriend slightly pregnant, then he changed his luck and had a slightly gay experience.

Thats my bet who signs him first, I would love to get him for the league minimum and then performance based salary and then add clauses for him getting into trouble...

Well he got cut so whoever picks him up will be negotiating a new contract.

If he gets picked up off waivers they get the contract he already has.

I never really got the whole waivers thing, can anybody explain it to me?

But here's the info for ya RustShack

Johnson, 25, had two seasons remaining on his original rookie contract with Chicago, at base salaries of $510,000 for 2007 and $548,750 in 2008.

I'd do it then. He'd be suspended for some games this season, but imagine this kinda depth:

DE
Jared Allen
Turk McBride

Tamba Hali
Jimmy Wilkerson

DT
Tank Johnson
Tank Tyler
Alphonso Boone
Ron Edwards
James Reed

When a player is released, he must first pass through the waiver wire. The waiver wire goes in the order of the draft. So if the Raiders wanted him, and we wanted him, the Raiders would get him. They would also get the contract he had with the Bears when he was released.

Since Johnson isn't making that much, I would pick him up and see how he handles it. We don't HAVE to keep him, or renew his contract.

We need two tanks. Left Tank and Right Tank.

i'd pick him up if he comes cheap.

the DLine is the key to Defense, can never have to many good DT's.

but does he fit the cover 2?

Goodell may well suspend him for the entire season after this latest screw-up. He might not see the field at all in 2007 regardless of who signs him.

I don't think there's any question that his suspension is a lock for the full year this season. And, if Goodell wants to have some power behind his words... Pacman and Tank will receive life-time bans.

Pacman's issues just seem more egregious.

LOL

I wouldn't go that far, but getting the Bears thin up front softens the road for LJ to knock the spit out of Urlacher a few times.

Of course, this is Chicago, who seem to grow DLmen like Pittsburg grows LBs.

I don't think Briggs'll be there. I honestly think we could go 3-0. Without being homerish. Last year I had us tracked for 0-4.

It would evolve into this George Costanza "T-Bone" situation. Eventually one of them would have to change their nickname or leave.

That Houston game is a trap. I'm feeling very bad about it.

That's the same hornets nest we wandered into last year in Cleveland. That team has a tough DL (pretty thin, but the starters are young and hungry), with a good linebacking core. The offense doesn't really frighten me too much except for that killer receiver they have -- what's his name? Johnson?

Either way, I think that defense is going to be a good test for our OL, for our run game, and for Croyle, who'll have the fight of his life trying to keep the defense honest. It's a young D, though, so I don't think they'll be changing things up and coming up with elaborate plots to give Croyle headaches -- that'll be week 2.

The Chiefs are the better team, and they should beat the Texans, but it's going to be a very intense fight. The entire city will be hungry for a win.

Same deal in Chicago, which I still believe we're the underdogs for. But week 3 should be ours. I want us to be at least 2-1 heading into San Diego in week 4.

If we can rack up a 2-2 record at the start of the season, we'll be surefire playoff contenders.

Tank: "So...um...do you like beer?"

NFL | Family says T. Johnson not truthful about childhood
Fri, 29 Jun 2007 12:50:54 -0700

Mike Hutton, for the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the aunt of unrestricted free-agent DT Tank Johnson (Bears), Chris Johnson, said he has lied and exaggerated stories about his childhood, especially about how his father was always in and out of prison when he was younger. Terry Johnson Sr., Tank Johnson's father, said he has never been to jail.
