The Royals were wise to be patient with Lubanski. He spent one and a half years with the Wranglers.

Good news, just be patient with the kid, but bringing kids up through all 3 minor leagues is a good idea, instead of skipping. Even if he spends part of the year in AAA.

Hopefully this guy will be able to push DeJesus to LF eventually, like Beltran did for Damon. Not that DDJ is bad, just... hopefully, Lubanski can be good enough to make it a decision we have to make.

Lubanski looks to become a solid contributor in the next year or so.

Good news!!

Hopefully Maier can turn out as well. Maybe we could move Teahen to first base that way.

Lubanski is a corner OF now, so he won't be pushing DDJ to left. The kid has put on a lot of muscle since he was drafted and is more of a power hitter than a 5 tool guy.

Look for either a Teahen trade or Teahen goes to 1st base which they have done the last couple games suprisingly.

Quite honestly, if we are going to trade Teahen, we ought to move him back to third base temporarily. Gordon can handle 1st base until we trade Teahen--who will have much more trade value if we (re)convince other teams he is a third baseman.

The claim is they don't want him back at 3rd because of his shoulder surgery. He can use a different throwing motion in the outfield than he would use at 3rd base I guess is what they claim.

People don't need to see Teahen at 3rd anymore anyway. In fact I think him playing the OF and leading the league in assists bolsters better for us.

Man I would love to get some of the Angels young players and I think Teahen would make great trade bait for them.

If we trade Teahan I will be pissed. He is the most solid player we have and should a keystone on this team. Move Teahan to first as we have other options currently available and let the younger kids play the outfield. I don't think trading him is going to net us the type of prospects some of you think it would.

The Angels are NOT going to trade Brandon Wood. And he projects as a third basemen long term, anyway... what do you do with Gordon?

Teahen is a good all-around, savvy player, and he shouldn't break the bank when he hits free-agency.

I heard possible OF for him also, i'd rather keep teahan as well.

why the **** would u want to trade teahen!? Thats exactly what we have despised the past 10 years... Get a prospect, get him prety good and then trade his ass off... Hell no!!! He has a hell of an arm and has a nack for the game, at any position you put the guy at. He's the type of guy that has the baseball smarts along with the athleticism, so he is and will be our number 1 guy for years to come, cause he is still maturing, in my honest opinion.

every single play he runs his ass off, and shows that he actualy wants to play the fokin game, so yah, i agree with you, hes really fun to watch. How many times this year has he stretched a single into a double with his baserunning abilities and speed? quite a bit more than anybody else we got...

Shea Hillenbrand for Mike Sweeney??

uhhh

Shea Hillenbrand, a day after the play-me-or-trade-me act, upon getting the news the Los Angeles Angels had chosen the latter: "It's a great organization. I wished I could have finished my career here."

Well, let's see: .254 batting average, .275 on-base percentage, .325 slugging percentage. While perhaps dangerously close to getting his wish, Hillenbrand will have some teams sniffing around. The Yankees just got beat by another left-handed pitcher, so there might be something there, and the Minnesota Twins haven't done much against lefties, either.

The Angels ultimately could swap out Hillenbrand for Mike Sweeney, for whom they once offered Casey Kotchman and another high-end prospect, and now probably could get for a mid-level prospect.

… AND FLY

And the Kansas City Royals are 1½ games behind the White Sox.

hm... thats really interesting... Personally, I would love to do that trade, just to for one see sweeney actually playing for a team that has a chance and for 2 to get the money off the payroll(if thats part of the agreement that they take on all his salary) to get somebody else in here that could be a better fit.

I, for one, will be extremely disappointed if the Human DL is sitting on our bench come August and outright upset if he's still on our roster for '08 spring training.

If we get Shea and a mid level i guess we could go for that. I know Shea is being for designated for assign. friday. Sweeney still has to come off the DL to get traded as well.

definitely. Moore would have done that in a heartbeat, becaue everybody knows that the Angels have a shit ton of really fookin good high end prospects, and kotchman isnt al that bad really. Couldn't be any worse than sweeney has been the last couple years.

Kotchman is finally putting together a solid year at the plate. He has always had a ton of potential and a good glove at firstbase. He was a really hot prospect at one time.

The rumor always was that Baird had a deal in place for Sweeney to the Angels, and it was shot down. Don't know how true that was, but that was it.

Royals notebook: Hudson heading for surgery
By BOB DUTTON
The Kansas City Star
ANAHEIM, Calif. | Ongoing shoulder problems will force right-hander Luke Hudson to undergo surgery today in Cincinnati.

Hudson’s problem surfaced in mid-March and has limited him to just one start — a disastrous May 10 outing against the A’s, when he allowed five runs in two-plus innings in a 17-3 loss.

Hudson made four minor-league rehab starts before his May 10 outing but has not pitched since returning May 13 to the disabled list.

Timothy Kremchek, a shoulder specialist, will perform the procedure. Club officials continue to list Hudson’s injury as biceps tendinitis, but growing concerns point to possible labrum problems.

Hudson, 30, entered the season projected as the club’s No. 3 starter after going 6-3 with a 4.79 ERA last season in 15 starts. He is currently on the 15-day disabled list but figures to shift to the 60-day list to create roster flexibility.

Rehab updates

Right-hander Scott Elarton is scheduled to pitch this afternoon for Class AAA Omaha in his first of three scheduled rehab assignments. A sprained right foot forced Elarton back to the disabled list last week after eight starts following his recovery from shoulder surgery.

Plans also call for lefty reliever John Bale and first baseman Ross Gload to join Omaha in time for Friday’s game against New Orleans.

Gload got the green light after testing his right quadriceps muscle in pregame running drills. He hasn’t played since being diagnosed with a torn quadriceps after a May 13 game in Chicago.

Bale was cleared after experiencing no day-after problems Wednesday with his neck and lower back following a bullpen workout before Tuesday’s game.

“Everything feels pretty good,” he said. “I’m ready to go.”

This marks Bale’s third rehab assignment since the season started. He initially suffered an upper-back injury in mid-March. He aborted two previous rehab assignments because of renewed problems.

Nuñez sharp again

Maybe it’s a good thing that outfielder Milton Bradley came up with that oblique injury.

Right-hander Leo Nuñez gave up just one run in six innings Tuesday against Oklahoma in his first start at Omaha. Nuñez got a no-decision when the bullpen blew a three-run lead in a 6-4 loss.

Nuñez was promoted last Saturday from Class AA Wichita to Omaha — one day after the Royals voided a trade that would have sent him to Oakland for Bradley.

Nuñez, 23, opened the season on the disabled list after suffering a broken wrist in spring training. He returned last month to active duty and was 1-0 in six games at Wichita while allowing just two runs and 10 hits in 20 2/3 innings.

“He’s starting just to get more work in,” farm director J.J. Picollo said. “We want to stretch him out to help develop all of his pitches. His role will play out in time.”

Minor details

Class AA Wichita right-hander Luke Hochevar started Tuesday for the North in the Texas League All-Star Game in Corpus Christi, Texas. He gave up two runs and three hits in two innings but got a no-decision when the South rallied for a 5-4 victory in 10 innings.

First baseman Mike Stodolka went two for four with one RBI. Left fielder Chris Lubanski went one for four with a walk. Hochevar struck out three and walked none.

Etc.

•Jorge De La Rosa was the starter when the Royals recorded their last shutout, too. That was Sept. 5, 2006, in a 5-0 victory over the Yankees. De La Rosa pitched 5 2/3 innings, and Todd Wellemeyer pitched the final 3 1/3 innings.

•The Royals completed their first series sweep in Anaheim since Sept. 15-17, 1995.

•De La Rosa is 3-0 in four day games and 2-9 in 13 night games.

•Mark Teahen started at first base for the third time in four games.

I don't picture the Angels actually offering anything "high-level" since they are so anal about giving up prospects.

No, you don't freaking trade Teahen! What the hell? Are you smoking crack? Teahen, Gordon, Butler, Shealy, Pena-these guys are the future. You don't trade them. Dejesus maybe, only because his worth is as high as it will get and he's marginal as a CF speedwise.
