Not really,

Contreras is 11-11 with a ERA of 2.96 career-wise aganist the Royals.

But he has been pitching like a very old man this year.

5 wins, 8 losses, 4.63 ERA with a WHIP of 1.444.

im ok with everybody else in their spots, other than costa. I know he wants to get the young guy in there for playing time, but not at the cleanup spot when he hasnt shown any power this year and doesnt even project to be a power hitter whatsoever...

Well, I like this better than Grudzielanek batting third. Try and put Costa between two hot hitters to let him see some good pitches. Not very impressive having a guy hitting .182 with 0 homers batting cleanup though.

I think he's afraid to put Buck back up there, he went 0-6 and forced things last week when he hit cleanup. Might as well try it though, if you did that you could flip flop Buck and Costa, and have L/R/L/R hitters all the way down the order.

The L/R/L/R is just screwed up. You want your best players to be on the 3-6 spots, regardless if they bat right or left.

It should be

Teahen
Gordon
Butler
Buck

It can be adjusted, since Gordon doesn't have to play 4th.

Seriously, Costa has no reason to bat 4th. None. Zip. Zilch. Zero.

agreed. I don't care that we're a team that is still building and we arent expected to win every game. Managers are supposed to try to win every game, no matter what, by putting out the best lineup out there on the field...

Mr. Laz
06-29-2007, 05:51 PM
having a young team is no excuse for not knowing how to make a lineup.

putting a guy in the wrong place doesn't help him develop.

I agree that Buddy Bell isnt winning a Nobel Prize for Astronomy anytime soon, but lets not exaggerate the damage here. He is merely guilty of costing us a few wins a season with these crazy lineups, not blocking player development. Where you bat in the order is irrelevant for learning how to hit, it just impacts our ability to win the game.

i don't know ...... i think it reflects on his overall ability.

if he is costing us games with these basic things .... then what kind of basic things is he not teaching the young guys?

besides winning gives players confidence and it's hard enough to win without our manager blowing games.

less wins = hurt the confidence of the young players = hurting their development

Yeah, I think it might be an effort to let Costa see some quality pitches and get back into a groove. Streaks and confidence are more important in baseball than any other sport by far, except maybe golf or something.

I'm ok with moving some people around, if we had a locked down lineup that was scoring the most runs in the American League then you don't fix it. But... it's broke.
