Just a shot in the dark. There are planeteers that sometimes travel up I-35. Thought I might be able to come to an agreement with someone.

Suggestions? (Antifreez excluded)

Why don't you just tie it up to the back of someone's car and have them drag it down the highway?

Someone who's headed that way of course.

No antifreeze? I guess the US Postal Service is probably out of the question too.

Seriously though, I'm not sure, but FEDEX or UPS may ship live cargo.

Tough situation, Mr. Frankie. I too, know what it is like to be separated by hundreds of miles from a valued family pet. My suggestion is as follows:

1. Fill some balloons with hydrogen.
2. Tie cat to balloons.
3. Wait for prevailing southwestern winds. (Mr. Donger helped with this part.)
4. Release cat.
5. Quickly develop cat capture plan.

3. Wait for prevailing northeastern winds.

Would that not send said floating feline in a southwesterly direction?

Transporting pets is tricky and expensive. Do you know anyone you can have drive down here and pickup and then drive back? It could be done in a day. It would probably be cheaper than hiring a service. Or trusting any non-cat person on this board...IMO. A cat person would need to be doing the driving because cats and cars are not usually a good mix.

BTW, congrats on getting a new cat.

Thanks. The seller and I have only agreed on the cat and the price. Transportation maybe the deal killer. I'm trying to avoid that eventuality. Fariba and I talked about making a weekend KC trip out of it. But her mom is visiting from overseas and she is so anti-pet it's not even funny. We can't leave her here and we don't wanna make it a two way express trip. If nothing else works, maybe the cat will still be available 5 weeks from now when mother-in-law is back to Denmark.

Thanks for the offer. But like Dennise said, one has to be a cat person to tolerate a traveling cat who's not used to cars. But if per chance, she thinks she can do it, I'll pay for her gas.

Is it a cat or a kitten? Surely a kitten couldn't be too much trouble in a car, could they?

I'm driving from Lawrence back to my home in Des Moines on Wed. July 25th, I have a pet cat, and actually had the "experience" of transporting that terrified (and drugged) cat in a carrier from KS to DSM a month ago. After a few days of hiding behind the sofa, he eventually adjusted to his new home without the use of antifreeze. Let me know if this would work, since it sounds like this would be roughly on my way anyway

Hey we might have something there. I don't know if I wanna trust him to a neocon though. ;)

Jokes aside, the timing would be perfect for me as by later this month, I'm hoping the remodeling of my house will be done and the mess cleaned up. Let me know if we could work something out. And of course a fair compensation for your trouble.

If not, my .02 would be forget about that cat and visit your Vet's office or a local shelter and adopt one of the untold dozens of kittens out there that are not particular breeds but make wonderful pets anyway. You'll save money and a life.

My last 5 cats (and a dog) have been either from the ARL or a family who didn't want him (Sammy). But this time, since I am strictly looking for a Persian I went the purchase route. But I also always advise folks who are not particular with a particular breed to save one from the ARL.
