It's pronounced just like it feels:

Misery.

I was born in that state. Have lived in that state my whole life. Misery. Currently I'm staying in Seattle.

Are you asking which is ultimately proper pronunciation? Or which do locals often use?

Yes, the schwa pronounciation can be applied to several words ending in "i" such as spaghetti.

depends on which side of the river you live on

depends on if you are related to Bloody Bill Anderson

depends on if you have relatives that were jayhawkers

Yay!

Behold Planetman, the rock, the hard place, like a wind from Arrowhead he sweeps by, blown far from his homeland in search of glory and honor, we walk in the garden of his turbulence.

Thanks for the info

A teacher I had in junior high would get pissed when we pronounced it Missou- ree. She said only "oddballs" from St. Louis called it that. She was and idiot

well, I heard Sheryl Crow say Missourah on one of her songs. She said that he's from there. So, if that's a backwoods hick, then I guess so.

It's kinda like the Arkansas River.. it's not spelled "Arkansaw River", is it?

It's not your Kansas, and it's not my Kansas. It's OUR Kansas.
