WR Brent Little, Poplar Bluff, MO

In mid-June of this year, the Kansas City Chiefs signed former Southern Illinois wide receiver Brent Little to a two-year deal. When he was signed, Little said "To be able to play for my hometown and get an opportunity like this doesn't get any better. I grew up watching the Chiefs." This wasn't in the quote but I'm sure Little turned his head, coughed slightly while saying "I could never root for that post-apocalyptic town St. Louis." Little was orginally signed by the Cleveland Browns back in May 2006. An undrafted free agent when he signed with the Browns, Cleveland said they would have drafted Little if they had any more picks in the 2006 draft. He was later released in August of 2006 and picked up as a "street" free agent when he signed with the Chiefs.

Little was a four-year starter for the Salukis and caught 124 passes in his career for 2,303 yards. He also caught 20 passes for TDs while attending school in Carbondale. Little was a three game starter in 2002 and played in all twelve of SIU's games that year. 2003 and 2004 saw Little leading the team in catches, receiving yards, touchdowns and kickoff return yardage. Overall at SIU, Little ranks 6th all time in career receiving yards and 4th all time in career TD receptions.

A high school track star, Little earned all-state honors in football his senior year at Poplar Bluff high school.

His connection to the Kansas City area? Well Brent Little isn't exactly local in the Brookside/Overland Park/North of the River sense. He's from Poplar Bluff, which is a little southwest of Cape Girardeau, MO. About the only thing I know about the area is that I've driven through Sikeston, MO, a few times which is due east of Poplar Bluff. It has a heavily advertised, very crappy outlet mall. This mall is not even worth the paper its advertised on. If I'm not mistaken, the highlights are a Bible outlet and a Hush Puppy outlet. I remember leaving Sikeston strangely depressed, as if my mind was telling me I should be guilty of something but I couldn't quite pinpoint what it was.

Brent Little isn't exactly a star player. I would be surprised if he makes our team, which is already currently crowded with 10 wide receivers. If anything, he is practice squad fodder.

Up Saturday and Sunday, Safey Jon McGraw and linebacker Nick Reid.

Hopefully one of these 9 other recievers will replace Parker. Nice article though. Liked the St. Louis reference:).

Had to throw something like that in there since he probably should have been a Rams fan geographically speaking.

I think he is from KC originally, he has family here, and that he is good friends with Tyler Hansbrough of the UNC Tar Heels.

I think he has a shot of making it, if healthy. I think he was going to make the Browns practice squad, but had an injury.
