It's hard and you have to hire actual animators and then wait for them to do the drawings. CGI is fast.

Actually, John Lasseter, now head of Disney animation has stated he intends to bring back 2-d traditional hand drawn movies which have died out in recent years. Ironic considering he pioneered the now common 3-d CGI movies.
