I did a quick search of most retail outlets and I am amazed that after 8 months of retail sales this thing is so hard to find. Sites that had it listed had a ridiculous markup and most others were sold out of it. Amazon has many listed from 3rd party sellers but they start around $350 for the core system, and there's no way in hell I'm paying $100 over MSRP to get one.

Anyone know where I might obtain one at or around the $249 listed price. I'd like to avoid E-Bay if possible.

Just call the retail stores to see if they have them, and you might ask when they get deliveries and when they would know if a wii was in the delivery so you know when to call back. We called Target and they had 4, in the 30 minutes it took for us to get the kids in the car and pick it up they had all been sold. We stopped by Best Buy on the way home and they had a dozen sitting on the counter.

I love the interface, and the gameplay for Medal of Honor and Call of Duty is awesome, but so far I've been very disappointed in the game selection and gameplay of Madden 2007 and a couple of other titles I've rented.

It has good potential but if things don't improve in the next month or so, I may sell it off...

It really is the luck of the draw. I searched out here for nearly a month before eventually buying one off of Craigslist. My best friend's wife, who knows nothing about gaming systems whatsoever, walked into a GameStop and got one on the first trip.

You might also want to check out these sites I found to be useful:

FatWallet (http://www.fatwallet.com/t/24/673455/) - Online forum with a Wii availability thread. It's huge, but you might find some useful tips in there.

It's definitely aimed at a different market than the xbox or PS3. If you're a hardcore gamer, I'd imagine that you'll be disappointed with the Wii. If you like playing party games just for fun, though, it can't be beat.

thanks for all the advice guys. I found a store in the KC metro that has a confirmed shipment coming in on Sunday. Chances are I'll be waiting when they open the doors to grab it.
