Turk McBride - DL Jul. 24 - 3:44 pm et

Chiefs signed second-round DL Turk McBride to a three-year contract.

McBride, who had one sack as a senior at Tennesse, is projected to start while Jared Allen serves his recently reduced, two-game suspension. The 274-pounder should go back to being a three technique tackle once Allen returns.

Yes, of cource he did, reported for 9 years and $27.65 Million. Those negotiations must have hit a snag for a few hours, before settling in the middle. (according to my source)

why 3 years for everyone?

seems like a bad deal for the organization

Nah. Allows us to make full use of restricted free agency.

With our history with DL, I probably wouldn't want to sign him for more than 3 years either.

They always sign lower round players to three year contracts. Why? Because restricted free-agency doesn't begin until year four and the salary bonuses are so small that they basically have no impact on the cap.

I think you meant Truck McBain.

Demarrio Taylor signed a couple of days ago.

True but most of the time they start giving the three year deals to players drafted from the 4-7 rounds and some times the 3rd round I thought Turk would get a four year deal like Pollard last year.

there is some clause in the CBA that only allows certain round picks to be signed to certain number of years. I did hear though that he was signed to a 4 year deal on 610 AM, or so I thought.

1) He's fresh out of college. He'll put on at least 10 lbs. in an NFL program.

2) We run a Cover 2, which puts an emphasis on speed and quickness over bulk.

3) LaRoi Glover, Rod Coleman, Darnell Dockett, Mike Patterson - all productive DT's playing in the 280-285 range.

I'm actually more excited about this guy playing three-technique DT than RE. I think he'll be a lousy DE...in the limited film I saw of him he didn't look like an edge rusher. He seems like a quicker version of Wilkerson.

Probably not the case but wouldn't it be too cool if McBride spoke with a thick Scottish accent?

Well let's see - he was a backup until last year and had a pretty good year as a starter...
undecided, but I am extremely skeptical.

He doesn't have to aim too high to be an improvement in the middle. That's the worst part.

I don't know, honestly. Herm's just spoken about his motor, and Herm's got a real good eye for that.

I defer to him, though I disapproved of the pick at the time, and in a way I still would have liked to grab a stud OL with that pick.

Was there one at that pick? It's also quite possible that Herm looked into the future and decided our best bet for a stud OLman is next years draft. There's no way he's thinking SB this year.

He didn't have many sacks, but he had a whole bunch of tackles. I personaly think Tyler is better, but McBride is still pretty good, hopefully him and Tank will make a good combo inbetween Allen and Hali in the future.
