Not a great CB, but a great signing! Either way he is still the 3rd best CB on the team right now.

Good signing at a position of concern, thus avoiding a possible Fiasco if one of the starters had been injured.

He was on IR last year because of the previous year's injury, IIRC.

It usually takes a couple of years to come back from an ACL.

Paul Oliver fell through, Macklin fell through...

At this point I say just bring in every nameless CB with a pulse and hope one of them somehow turns it on.

Who do we have behind Surtain & Law?

Sapp -- probably our NCB.
McGraw -- S, but can play some NCB.
Phinisee
Maxey
Bragg
Brackenridge
Franklin -- supposedly released.
Poole

I think Poole was brought in to be the 4th corner if he is healthy. Maybe he can replace Benny Sapp as nickel but I doubt it. If Poole is healthy I think we can get by fine with Law, Surtain, Sapp, Poole, and Maxey at corner.

Sapp is useless except as a blitzer, and people ought to know to expect that when he's in there, so this is probably not a bad pickup.

Signing a CB who's been out of football for two years doesn't mean they were "looking" for a CB.

Jesus H. Christ on a biscuit.

They were "looking" for Macklin months ago, I made that post on 6/6, 40 days after the draft and 5 days after they hadn't picked up any free agent CB's.

So, at the time I made that post, they weren't looking for a 3rd CB. And there's no guarantee Poole can even play, so they're still not.

This honestly may work out well, he thrived in the cover 2 in college. He struggled with Miami when they asked him to play man, something he isn't suited to do.

Do you think he makes the team?

I have no idea. The guy looks in shape but he joined this team awfully late after being out of football for two years.

My depth chart puts Law&Surtain up top, with Sapp at NCB and Bragg as a reserve.

They'll most likely carry 5 and those top 3 are the only certains.....Poole is basically a very prototypical cover 2 corner. He should already know 95% of the defense as I pointed out anyone that watches USC or knows anything about Pete Carroll knows his defense is very very similar to what we run. He absolutely thrived in that system, he looked bad when Miami tried to make him play man.

That being said what I've seen and know of him, I like him more than guys like Bragg and Maxey, I think if he shows what he's capable of in our defense he'll make the team and get to play.

40 Phinisee, Justin CB 5-11 199 04/10/83

I think Law, Surtain, and Poole will be locks (assuming Poole is healthy). Sapp, Bragg, Maxey, and Brackenlidge will fight for the remaining 1 or 2 spots where anyone could win, and I think theres a good chance Sapp is another DV player that finds the exit, but theres also just as good of a chance for him to stay too.

Quote (First TC practice):
"One of the most breathtaking defensive moves was by cornerback Michael Bragg. He leapt into the air, nearly intercepting a 25-yard pass that was thrown by quarterback Casey Printers. Bragg will be fighting for playing time as a defensive back and plays like this will most certainly help."

Direckshun

I do have Bragg down as making the team, but I have him as a reserve with barely any playing time.

Not so much guys out of the game but guys who were talked about at some time in their past who are trying to make a come back. Add Gardner and even to some extent Bennett to that list. We are a team of young guys and those trying to regain something from the past. Either living up to potential cut short or regaining a high level from before.
