Police Believe Decapitated Man Committed Suicide

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. -- Police investigating a body found in a car said the man apparently committed suicide by self-decapitation.

Police were called to the parking lot of the Castle Rock Stadium 12 movie theatre at about 2 p.m. Tuesday by a construction worker who said he spotted a car in a nearby field a went to investigate.

The worker said he saw what appeared to be a body in the car and then called police.

Responding officers found the dismembered body of a white man in his early 60s in the driver's seat. The man's head was found nearby.

According to investigators, the man apparently wrapped a steel cable around a concrete pillar and then ran the cable into the car, placing it around his neck. Investigators believe the man accelerated the car, which resulted in his decapitation.

Police believe no foul play was involved and that the man committed suicide. They said they found a note left in his apartment, but did not disclose the contents.

The police should have known something was up when he went to an amusement park and rode the "Tower of Power" upside down several times.
