The Chiefs have come to terms with their first-round draft pick, leaving just three first-round selections from the 2007 draft unsigned and holding out from training camps.

Former LSU receiver Dwayne Bowe, who was the 23rd overall pick in the draft, agreed to terms with the Chiefs on Sunday, sources told ESPN.com's John Clayton. Bowe is expected in camp Monday.

Panthers rookie linebacker Jon Beason, picked 25th, also signed on Sunday.

The remaining first-round holdouts are the Raiders' JaMarcus Russell (No. 1 overall), the Jets' Darrelle Revis (14th) and the Browns' Brady Quinn (22nd).22nd

Chiefs sign first-round pick Bowe
By JASON KING
The Kansas City Star

File photo
First-round pick Dwayne Bowe was expected to arrive at Chiefs' training camp this evening.RIVER FALLS, Wisconsin | Chiefs first-round draft pick Dwayne Bowe has reached a contract agreement with the team and is expected to arrive in River Falls this evening, Bowe’s representatives told The Star Sunday.

Bowe has agreed to a five-year deal. No other details were immediately available.

Bowe was the 23rd overall pick in last spring’s draft. Some speculated that his contract negotiations were slowed because high-profile quarterback Brady Quinn, who was drafted one spot ahead of him at No. 22, was asking for so much money from the Cleveland Browns. Quinn is still unsigned.

Bowe’s representatives, however, said Sunday that the situation involving Quinn was never a factor in Bowe’s negotiations.

I doubt it, honestly. I think the only training camp position battle that's still undecided is the QB battle. I think everything's pretty much settled, save some preseason heroics or serious stumbles, which is always possible.

But maybe he'll have a huge preseason. We'll see.

Have you been reading the practice reports? Our other wide receivers have not exactly been impressive. Parker has been dropping the ball left and right like usual and Webb and Hannon have impressed at times but have been inconsistent.

You think the position battles are already settled after one week of training camp? Bull. What do you think the preseason is for?

We drafted Bowe for a reason. We were obviously not too impressed with the rest of our wide receivers. Herm Edwards is going to make sure Bowe has an impact this year. Do you see anybody else on our roster that is talented enough to keep Bowe from a starting spot? I sure don't.

Bowe has always been a better receiver than Craig Davis. There's really never been any debate.

Whether or not their individual success is continued in similar fasion in the pros remains to be seen, but Davis -- and the Chargers -- should be so lucky to be as good as Bowe.

Well, when they both played at LSU together, Bowe was generally option #1 for Russell, and Davis option #2. Couple that with Bowe being selected before Davis, and most of the draft "gurus" were suprised to see Davis go in the first round, and I'm confident in Bowe being every bit as good as Craig Davis.

Though, I'm sure we'll see a Whitlock article tomorrow casting a negative light on this, something like "Carl jeopardizes season again."

And an article from Gretz about how great this is, possibly titled "Chiefs Bowe on board and ready to make a difference"

And maybe even an article from Eileen Weir with some snarky title, which will take longer to read than Bowe's actual holdout time.

Let's hope he is as good as the Chargers #1 who is said to be catching everything in sight and has the softest hands on the Chargers entire receiver corp. We should be so lucky.

Who would that be? Vincent Jackson.

Actually, I think Davis was rising fast just before the draft. Some thought he would be a perfect fit for Indy. He runs crisp routes and makes all the catches he should make. On the other hand Bowe has more big play ability and better run after the catch, IMO.

I think Bowe is going to help our offense immensely. If the plan is to go with two/three-step drop backs and quick throws, Bowe is going to be nice going across the middle and snagging balls in stride. That is one of the areas that he seems to make big plays (with his run after the catch). And with his strength and leaping ability he is going to be a big asset in the red zone, ala Gonzalez.

I kind of like the way our receiving corps is shaping up. We are going to be primarily a running team with a lot of short passes and the occasional play action deep threat. Gonzalez, Bowe, Webb, and Kennison all fit nicely into that scheme, IMO. Plus, I think Ekwerekwu is going to surprise and Randolph is going to make the team. I'm thinking Parker might get cut. I believe we're going to be able to create mismatches that Brodie is capable of taking advantage of.

Gardner may be better than Ekwerekwu at this point but he's probably competing against Hannon more than Ekwerekwu. Gardner might be too much like Bowe and Webb to make the team, whereas, Ekwerekwu seems more like a possession receiver, which might come in handy when we need a little something different. JMO.

Do you see anybody else on our roster that is talented enough to keep Bowe from a starting spot? I sure don't.No wait a minute there... you don't know yet if'n Bowe will take a starter's spot. First we gotta see how he does trying to catch passes from Brobie Coyle - he don't have DeMarcus Russell throwing to him any more....

The Chiefs loose one average guard off the PS in 20 years and people are gun shy?

Who would Lilja have replaced? Not Shields or Waters. Is he better than Welburn at guard? I don't think Lilja was that big a loss.

If the guy needs to be on the PS then put him on the PS. I don't think losing Ekwerekwu off the PS would be that big a loss.

Yeah, I caught that too. Not sure if that is Herm or the front office trying to punish Bowe. Maybe both. Either way, it's a bunch of crap. The only good thing if he doesn't play is that it's one less game for him to get hurt in. I guess.

No I have just been reading nothing but praise coming out of training camp for the Charges about Davies. James Lofton their receivers coach who would know receivers said he has the softest hands he has ever seen, high praise indeed.

The same James Loften who recommended Cro Thorpe as a 1st round talent if he hadn't been injured and Sammie Parker as a guy who catches everything thrown at him?
