More interest in Wesley

Reserve safety Greg Wesley, a starter for the last seven seasons, could be traded soon to the Chiefs’ opening-day opponent, the Houston Texans.

The Texans are in need of a veteran safety and have asked the Chiefs what it would take to acquire Wesley. The Chiefs promoted two of last year’s draft picks, Jarrad Page and Bernard Pollard, ahead of Wesley and into the starting lineup.

The Chiefs had talked to the Denver Broncos about a deal involving Wesley, but the Chiefs were hesitant about sending him to a team they will play twice this season.

Let him drag the talent level down on any team we play this year.

I think we've scampered off topic, but I'll post anyways.

I love the idea of trading Wes somewhere other than Denver. I don't mind him going to Denver, but if there's a way we can send him somewhere else, I'd be far happier.

He looks hungry this preseason. The best slow-motion clip of Hard Knocks comes shortly after the boys discuss dreadlocks, and Wesley is blowing up Boomer in the backfield. Just an incredible display of strength.

That said, he doesn't belong in KC, but we need a 5th out of the deal at least.

I don't know. Wesley to Denver doesn't sound that bad to me. LJ could rack up quite a few yards against him:

1. Wesley lays big hit on LJ.
2. LJ doesn't go down.
3. Wesley doesn't wrap up.
4. Profit.

Since Okoye is looking like a bust, we could trade Wesley for Okoye. I still think Okoye will be good in the future, but it might be another 5 years. I'm sure hes still way ahead of all the other DT's coming out of high school, and when hes gets older he should be a beast.

they can't trade a high draft pick so soon.

As long as we are going after Okoye, we should throw in Turley and make the trade Wesley and Turly for Okoye, Williams and Ryans.

Riiiiiight. I'm sure the Texans are lining up to trade the first round pick they just gave a nice signing bonus to.

Wake up to reality.

Wesley is, at best, going to net a 5th rounder.

I am not fooled by the hype. It seems many people think that different automatically means better or younger = better. Not the case. Herm traded away Dante Hall and now we don't have a return man. Now he's trading away Wesley who is in reality quite a bit better than his backups and it's not like he's old. Page can't tackle anybody and Pollard has yet to do jack shit on defense.

You can stockpile all the 5th round picks you want but a 5th rounder is still a 5th rounder and 9 times out of 10 those picks aren't gonna amount to anything anyway.

I could see making a bunch of trades and getting rid of people if these guys were 33-35 years old and the backups were noticeably as good or better - but that is not really the case here.

6 interceptions 3 out of the last 5 years. That's pretty good. His overall stats are pretty impressive actually:

http://www.nfl.com/players/gregwesley/profile?id=WES035904

People like to dump on him because he does come up aggressively in run support and has gotten beat deep but I dont really recall him screwing up much in that dept. the last couple of years...certainly not near as much as someone like Roy Williams whose stats actually aren't as good.

Wesley wouldn't have nearly as many centerfield interceptions if he wasn't constantly out of position. He gets 3 or 4 tipped balls a year because he's too deep.

Dumb and slow, not a good combination for a zone safety.

People dump on him because he often does not wrap up on his tackles, and he often kills us by being out of position on passing plays. His interceptions don't make up for all the big plays he gives up.

He also gives a shit only when he feels like it. I saw him tank a interception against the Raiders one year and he got soundly booed at our end of the stadium. He did go and get a beautiful one later in the game but I'm not sure he would have tried if he hadn't gotten booed.
