From Baseball America

The Royals have signed five international players for bonuses ranging from $250,000 to $103,000. John Manuel called the Royals the "biggest surprise team on the list of big-spending organizations" on the international front.

Yowill Espinal - SS - 16 yr-old from the Dominican Republic got the biggest bonus - Avg defender good bat
Geulin Beltre - SS - Also from the Dominican - tools player, great defender, chance for power
Vicni Pereira - OF -Venezuela - projects as right fielder who will hit for power
Samuel Carmona - 3B - Dominican with body compared to Adrian Beltre - Avg defender with power potential
Edul Escobar - C - Panama - solid catch-and-throw with good game-calling skills at young age. Line drive hitter.

Quote from Rene Francisco (Royals director of International Scouting, started Aug. 2006)

“We are 100 percent committed to Latin America,” Francisco said. “I think that shows this year. We’re not up there with the big money teams, but we’re definitely in the top eight teams.

Dayton swore up and down we'd be top 10 in Latin American spending, he'd make sure of it.

I'm really excited to see where Moore can take this team in the future.

Hopefully right into the month of October...

It's amazing what you can do when your scouting department isn't the red-headed stepchild like it was prior to Moore's arrival.

Apparently all of these kids are about 16. (US players have to be 18, but international players can sign at 16) They will probably all turn 23 in 4 years, though.

Are we sure they're 16? They are probably already 23 in some cases. Remember that whole thing with Angel Berroa when we got him from the A's?

I'm just saying...

Great idea. Let's bring in all the latinos we can, because they're the ones who majorally go to the K. Hope the bilingual menus finally show up at the concession stands. The rosters don't match fanbase demographics.

Everyone else upset that russian and german menus aren't posted at Mickey D's all over the US? Five percent of the population doesn't warrant putting all the menus and customer service prompts en espanol.

Unless you can hit a curveball into the gap and want to sign with the Royals, then I'm cool with whatever you wanna do. :)

If these guys can truly play at the MLB level, and help the team win, the fans could care less what country they are from.

All i want is to WIN.

If these guys can be diamonds in the rough and play ball, who cares what language they speak or what country they're from?? Talent is talent.

Demonpenz should probably be banned, or at least take a vacation. Racism is against the board's rules. And that reminds me, when are the board rules going to be in Spanish?
